Chaos Return

Post by Teralok »

After experiencing the horsemen’s influence first hand in his garden and the creatures of the desert he decided to venture back to the place where he first heard them named. The beauty of the forest of resonance was refreshing, the bustle of humans that were determined to help each other reminded him of the open arms he received after his transgressions. Zeik had accepted his bloodthirsty past and gave the warrior enough patience to redirect that intent, no matter how unfruitful the endeavor. The act itself obliged a certain amount of fealty, but even as the ruler of his entire kingdom he had never imposed such restrictions. Even after arming the warrior the missions were optional and Teralok was granted the freedom to seek objectives outside of the kingdom.

It was through this very journey that led Teralok to become aware of the darkness that plagued the planet, a journey that led him to accept his own. It was impossible that he was created or born simply to destroy and consume, an option he would not accept. Although he was still finding his place in the world like a myriad of others that found refuge in the Chaos he came to realize he was one of the few that had the power to do anything about it. As he whisked passed the homes of the Chaos residents he wondered how many were aware of the situation outside the village. If only for the second that he was near, he was headed towards only the only source of human knowledge he trusted, the crystal institute, the campus of the Chaos, Ars Haven.

Finding himself on the doorsteps of the Sanctus Imperium however did not feel like he had made a wrong turn. The last time he was here in the crystal courts he had discovered an energy inside himself that had helped him form a weapon. It was a painful reminder of what happened when he let darkness consume him, the lives he took and the decrepit nature that beguiled him. He never wished to venture down that path again, so he bid it to stay by his side and soon it became witness to his attempts at staving off the darknesses of the planet.

This was what became of Teraloks victims, he didn’t recall how much of their flesh he had swallowed but he had seen their reflection in the crystals of the courts. They had been haunting him, spiking every experience with fear and anger yet he still didn’t have the heart to purge their existence from his body. The courts however provided the perfect outlet for Teralok to help further their experience thru the weapon that was forged.

Seen or unseen the weapon was always by his side, aware of and enjoying the subtle energies that life had to offer thru the warrior. It was the natural frequency of the planets life that it yearned for, the very one that Teralok had blamed for the planet’s demise. This allowed the natural dissolution of the negative energies and revealed to Teralok the same path allowing him to put more things into perspective. It always resonated so beautifully when he found different oasis across the planets surface, and when he became aware of it it would always push or pull him towards its center.

That cold dark energy that had afflicted him since birth could not survive under these influences, he could almost ignore the power of its radiation. The hatred he placed against those implicated in the planets destruction was replaced by the love he had for the things that enjoyed it. At this point raising the weapon to harm any of these creatures seemed impossible, not only did the frequency of the weapon oppose the idea, it was nowhere to be found when the thought entered Teraloks head. This was not something that he found an issue with, on the contrary the warrior also never thought of using the weapon for that purpose.

It was the situation in the desert that led him to believe that there was something else that the weapon would be better for. There were many thoughts that ran through the warriors head and there was a moment in his meditation inside a desert sand worm when the lance attempted to radiate this frequency in unison with Teralok in an attempt to quell the worms bloodthirst. It was this failure that told Teralok that a peaceful solution was not an option and something was inherently wrong with this creatures natural disposition. There were a few things that begged the warriors attention in reality, the response of his animus was the closest and most troubling. Fixated in direction of the Chaos it would vibrate if he tried moving it and only increased its intensity the further he went. So that is where he found himself, with his animus leading the way he walked through the last brush towards the Crystal Imperium.

Prelude

Teralok had been searching this forest for quite some time, careful of the foliage and trying his best to avoid damaging the major root systems beyond repair. His head poked up from under a few fallen leaves, eyes quickly scanning the underbrush before disappearing with barely a disturbance only to appear in the shadow of the next biggest tree. Looking again he could find no trace of the vegetation he was searching for but still he would keep looking. There was nothing in the area that truly garnered his attention until he attempted to leave into a clearing. Starting off subtly a long pole began to materialize across his chest, interfering with his tunneling until it all the way barred him from going further into the clearing. Dirt would pile higher and higher as Teralok tried to drag the weapon along but the sudden eruption of the lance in his hand as he dug himself out was a sign of his submission.

Sitting atop the mound he placed the weapon in his lap and pondered his location. Looking back into the forest from the clearing he did notice it appeared more lively than other forest that he had inspected. The lance was humming softly until it reached a climax and zipped out of his lap, Teralok reached out to where it intended to go and caught it firmly. Hauling himself up almost completely on the momentum of the weapon he sighed as he stifled the pulling vibrations of his lance and stood beside it. It became evident to him then that there was something that the Mammoth Lance wanted to see, or at the very least show him.

Walking topside he got to be aware of the multitude of animals that partook of the forests energy. The birds and other critters were constantly gathering and dispersing from strange fruit trees. Exotic flowers attracted a migration of different insects, Teralok could have spent a week separating the variety of species but it was not something he found relevant. He stepped quietly between the trees while his lance joined the symphony of the biome, he glanced back to it in his hand in surprised annoyance. This wasn’t a frequency of his creation, it was similarly close to that of a human, he almost cast it away in disgust except he knew it would just come back. He looked around at the vision of life in front of him and back at the weapon in his hand, it was more than just the nauseating waves of human consciousness coming from his weapon. It was reaching into the natural frequencies of the very oasis. Teralok kneeled carefully before lowering the lance, tentative of the reaction to ensue, rightfully so, as it increased its vibrations it caused a more audible tone.

The warrior stood and turned to leave immediately, the creatures of the oasis beginning to pause and take notice of the sound impending upon their eardrums. There was also this terrible feeling that he was about to experience something he thought was impossible. Thrusting itself out in front of him with his hand still attached the lance stalled his steps until lodging on some trees. The warrior furrowed his brow and ferociously twisted the weapon more than a few times landing the lance upright and kept moving, going from pushing to having to drag the lance with both hands as it had begun digging into the ground. Between the last few tugs and Teralok staring eye to eye with a massive bear-cat he realized it might be less time consuming to just let the lance go where it wanted.

The creature was at least seven feet long without the three foot tail swinging back and forth, it took a few sniffs of him before taking a curious swipe at the warrior, which he dodged with a whole step back, causing him to release his lance. The bear growled before lunging with its jaws, like it was trying to bite his face off. Stepping back again he witnessed the sharp teeth snap together before him and before he knew it he had its fur in his grip. Frustrated as he was in this situation it was very tempting to separate the beasts head from its shoulders but he was positive that would cause more problems than it would solve. Still he couldn’t help but feel a bit satisfied by cracking the creatures skull against his own and feeling the hunk of muscle go limp into unconsciousness.

There wouldn’t be a second after to enjoy that satisfaction however when the metal bar of his own weapon slammed across his face sending him tumbling backwards head over heels. Landing on his back further in the forest the sound of the impact radiated through his entire body, insulating itself it echoed again and again crippling his senses from hearing anything else. Laying there unable to think about any one thing he saw the movement of life thrive here, birds started flitting from tree to tree and the foxes and other critters were jumping over him like nothing even happened.

After all of his senses returned and the warriors thought returned to relatively coherent the rest of the background noise he was hearing was coming from a nearby waterfall. Then finally turning his head and seeing his lance just as deep in the ground as it was almost thirty feet away did he realize why it did that. Shutting off his senses and subsequently his energy allowed his weapon to resonate peacefully in the midst of the oasis, as that’s exactly what it was doing. The human wavelength unified harmoniously with the natural rhythms of the oasis, a spectacle that did not resonate with his view of the world. As challenged as this left him Teralok submitted to leaving his energy completely shut off, removing his impact on his surroundings and rendering himself nigh undetectable to regular organisms. Stepping on him would feel like another part of the terrain, even while turning over and witnessing the advance of three of the giant bear-cats.

Subsequently they would not matter to the warriors current state of mind, after creating the subterfuge to avoid detection his mind drifted away to ponder the meanings of his actions. The bear-cat however was certain it was on the trail of the violent trespasser that assaulted it, nose to the ground, no matter how much sound the warriors body absorbed or minerals he replaced bathing was not a part of his routine. Unfortunately that’s exactly what made these bearcats such social creatures, despite their similar appearance they identified themselves and other things through smell. Regardless the vibrating lance spoke volumes of his involvement, and the cats crept closer towards it cautiously taking glances at the others positions like it was part of a routine.

No matter how much they stalked around the lance however they wouldn’t be able to locate the exact location of the contemplating Teralok. Finally gathering around the weapon where the scent was the strongest they still counted their hunt as victorious. The enemy gone and a trophy to prove the terror of their fierceness, the one with the grudge roared triumphantly and the others joined in unison. The birds screeched from the perches and the animals scrambled away from their natural predators announcement and the lance spiked the natural melody by growing with their decibels.

Teralok nearly scoffed at the enjoyment the weapon was having, he didn’t, but after coming to terms with the idea of humanity conspiring with nature instead of against it he found himself uncomfortable in his own skin… disappointed with many of his very own actions against the species. He had been so sure of his understanding of the planet and the cause of its problems but he never even considered he was wrong. It was an easier problem to fix if he had someone to blame and there were lots of them.

Unwittingly he caught himself shifting in the soil, curling tighter into a ball and trying to block out the sounds of triumph unifying over him. The bear cats acute vision picked up on the disturbance and it crept its nose closer to the stone image the warrior manifested. Raising its paw it’s dragged its claws across the surface like it was trying to sharpen its claws, but even without the fortification of his naten flow, the four inch claws barely scratched the surface. Teralok shuddered through the pain before rolling over too slowly for the creature to feel threatened, even though it still curled it’s lips, he looked up into the eyes of the cat and saw the wound he administered. One of the creatures eyes were bloodshot and its fur was matted to its head where he had been struck, like it had tried to clean the wound a bit. As soon as his eyes switched to the other two the wounded cat clawed at his face from above with the trained muscles of steel you expected from hunters of this size.

Th massive paw clawed at his head and sent Teralok sliding from the glancing blow, having already been in a frog like stance and focusing on flooding his pores with energy his skin was just hard enough to deflect a repeat offense. Very much on cue the other two jumped into action behind it, flanking his position in a single motion each. He replied by digging in deeper, his fingers spread and his feet swiveled as he shook the ground with decibels low and loud enough it could shake their very bones loose from their bodies except their were less connected to the ground. Like a concussive grenade went off in a loud speaker they were blown away from his flanks. Curiously enough the lance peaked in harmonic reverberation with this sound as well, producing a rising tone that echoed away after his sound wave ended.

His eyes were caught in a tug of war between the wounded animal and the fossilized Ivory that was radiating their noises. The cat was stalking along the ground ready to pounce at the slightest opening relying on the countless other stimuli to distract him again. The warrior was facing many more demons than the forest offered however, he would lose this fight if his weapon joined the opposing team again and he already felt guilty of invoking this vengeance from the bear cats. The attack didn’t affect his line of sight so he had a clear view of his main aggressors, which left the warrior curious as to what the sounds of the lance was actually doing.

Looking straight into the creatures eyes he noticed that they were both now clear of any signs of internal injury. As well as cancelling out his deafening attack it seemed to have healed the animal with corresponding intensity. At least that’s what it seemed to the warrior, a phenomenon that Teralok was eager to replicate for proof. Standing up he kept investigating the energy long enough to be tackled from the left with a jaw clamping down on his throat and after struggling for control long enough he garnered enough to catapult the creature away from him. After which he immediately scrambled to stay out of the next pair of jaws trying to pry him open.

He circled towards the lance, the mad first bear stalking between them guarding its trophy, having been healed by its connection it looked as if it had become more attached. Of course the only way Teralok could tell was its direct proximity, which he was testing until he began to reach the base of the falls on the other side. It traveled no less than twenty meters from either side, protecting it no less but less aggressively as the battle dragged on. While Teralok had his back to the waters the other two bears caught up to him quickly.

The second bear cat on our list took a high speed leap that landed it right into Teraloks anticipating palms, ducking towards it and twisting its momentum with his shoulders he threw the creature straight towards the leader of the pack. Dodging it would have been an expected outcome as the warrior had kept his distance while calculating the perimeter of the bear cats protection, except Teralok was already sliding across the topsoil to catch it as soon it landed back on its paws. Having chased his throw by cycling said topsoil with his own he led the third and final wild animal right with him, but he tackled the first, tumbling with it well into the radius of the lances resonance.

That’s where he felt it, the harmonic healing sounds radiating from his weapon, the second huge creature clambered up to a sitting position next to the weapon and the third one that was chasing Teralok crept to a low stalk once he saw the result of the tumble. Teralok holding the biggest bear cat in a chokehold clasping his forearm with a mechanical grip.

While he was here he felt his own scratches a cracks fill in and solidify with little to no effort at all. Listening to the amplified harmonics of the waterfall, the wind, and the rest of the forest left Teraloks grip with no reason to hold so tight. It’s like the sound of the world was being vacuumed so tightly that the peaceful harmonics were the only thing in existence. All of the validity for this altercation gradually slipped away, the cat closest to the weapon even began to clean itself of the struggles evidence.

After finally letting go and watching the animals coexist with the weapons frequency Teralok could do nothing but be amazed. The creatures stretched against it adoringly and the serene sound it produced added a delicate connection to everything in the area. Still not only did Teralok not know how to feel about this, it was beginning to defeat its purpose as a weapon.
