How many months had it been since they had to move their ship? How many years had gone by since they were banished from their home world? Ever since he came to this world, Vescrutia, he felt sluggish, as if every step he took was like treading through tar. He felt as if the days here were filled with water, drifting...aimlessly. This planet had become his own personal purgatory in which he felt his mind and body would slowing wither, in its melancholy.

"No.." he thought. Banishment here was meant to be just that, the dull of the day to day a meaning of recompense for his deeds. "No.." he thought, for these feelings weren't to be felt for one such as him. Annex was trapped in this ocean, just as he was...but unlike him she deserved nothing of the sort.

Cain, took a pause and wiped the sweat from his brow, the heat of his hydrospaner finally getting to him. Their ship had taken some damage after their quick departure from their previous location, the commotion, something of which Cain still couldn't completely figure out had caused them to flee their home and move elsewhere. However their not so scheduled take came with its own complications as taking off in a ship during maintenance is never the best idea.

They had been lucky, if Annex hadn't of decided to recalibrate the shields before their hyperdrive...there would of been a long more damage upon their landing...there would be a lot less Cain and Annex around as well.

He let out a relaxing sigh as he sat upon the grass his back pressed against the cool metal of their ship, it helped..cooling him down. Cain looked outward, first toward the trees, and then to the sky. It was a calm day, clear skies. He began questioning himself that if such a place so calm was considered a Hell to him...then what was it that Cain truly wanted?

He rose from his resting position and began to make his way inside when all of a sudden...

*BANG*

The long echo of gunfire echoed through the tree lines and carried across the flowery plains. His skin felt like pins and needles and the hairs on the back of his neck stood up, and before he could even understand his body had moved him just out of the way. The bullet hit the ship hard, putting a smoldering hole in its haul....this was blaster fire from a Leviiathan Rifle. He had seen the damage those guns could do all his life.

The Leviiathan issued shield ignited upon his arm, and Cain raised it toward the trees. It was faint, but blazing red trail mode from the blaster had given away the snipers position....somewhat.

Cain instincts caused him to reach for his blaster, but the Leviiathan Goverment had confiscated it long ago, he cursed before being knocked back from the impact of another shot.

*BANG*

He hit the ship hard, his ears beginning to ring, just what type of rifle where they using? He shield held up against it...so that was good. Partially deaf, Cain called out to Annex in what he hoped was a loud and clear cry, telling her to stay inside and raise the shields. Sadly that was all, their shuttle didn't have any weaponry or else Cain wouldn't of hesitated to turn his guns on the entire forest if needed.

Cain waited, before the next...

*BANG*

Another shot, but this time he was ready dodging the shot by, pushing off the ship for an explosive take off as he dished into the forests. There was no way this person was going to get away with shooting at him...what was it...three times?

... So much for being self-sustaining. Annex had downloaded all the necessary information to interface with the craft before their exile had began, but without access to parts, Annex wasn't sure how long her jerry-rigged solutions would hold. The compounds native to the planet were simply incompatible with the ship's construction most of the time. It was only a short time ago that she'd discovered a wandering Witch that seemed to be able to pull exotic materials from seemingly nowhere, and had obtained her services in fabricating a couple essential parts. Without the specialty forges of a ship's bay, such things would be normally unobtainable.
Annex lay upon her back toward the after end of the ship, perspiration dotting her brow, even though the open hatch did its best to allow a trickle of cool air into the ship. In one hand, she held a replacement RXG-7645 drive (a rather heavy object, about the size of her torso and made up of a dense metal), while the other frantically fumbled with the mounting tool, attempting to align the array in some semblance of order.
"Torrerra's bones, get in there, you fucking thing..."
With a grunt, she shoved with her remaining strength in an attempt to straighten the part to its precariously hanging mounting bracket amidst the complex wiring that would close up back around the essential component upon completion of repairs automatically.

BANG.

...But that didn't sound right.

BANG!

Her training kicked in before she could even fully process what was happening. Rolling to the side, she abandoned the drive and reached for her pistol... Which of course wasn't at her belt. Cursing her lapse in judgement, she scrambled to her feet and slid to the table upon which her pistol lay. On her way by, she input the code to raise their defenses into a wall panel. Their biological signatures would be recognized by the ship, but it most certainly wouldn't welcome any foreign bodies... Or projectiles.
The ship hummed as its shields roared to life, shimmering a lively gold. Annex moved to the open ramp and shouted for a report from the ship, and a live feed of the surrounding area. Her finger itched for the trigger, but she maintained her discipline even as she felt herself slipping into a battle-hardened numbness.
Cain's shield unit was equipped with comms, so it didn't take much to reach him, but her voice was little more than static to his mostly-deaf ears.
"Sir," - she couldn't bring herself to use any other form of address, her nerves rattled enough to slip into the familiar pattern. "Sir, HQ. What's happening? Did you obtain a position on the sniper?"

The rushing wind pained his stinging ear but Cain did not flinch. He charged ahead, weaving side to side throwing off his would be assassin's aim, and it was working.

*BANG*

Cain dodge the attackers bullet by quickly darting behind a tree, and would continue to do so, circling the assassin's location "I see you", he mumbled to himself. There, high above in one of the trees he could make out the assassin in his cameo gear. After so many shot, the attacker had given up his postilion, he wouldn't stay there for much longer, Cain wouldn't give him the chance. In a bold move Cain charged toward the tree he had deduced the assailant was hiding in, his energy shield raised as he ran low to the ground, so low that the blades of grass could almost brush against his chin.

*BANG*

The jetting red bullet of burning plasma spiraled toward him, but Cain was ready. The blast was to powerful to block head on but Cain had, had enough of getting knocked around for one day. He raised his shield arm toward the bullet, just ever so slightly under its path. The bullet grazed just Cain's energy and using it as a slope redirected the bullet into a near by tree causing not just that one tree to fall but several in its general direction.

Cain leap, hurling himself off the ground and spiraling into the leafy branches of his assassin's hiding place.

"Hello there."

Cain spoke in a smug tone, but his posture was serious and focused. Finally face to face with his would be killer Cain looked in shock. His assassin clad in a crude knock off of Leviiathan Military armor, perhaps a repurposed prototype?

Image

The man did not speak, only slowly put away his sniper rifle sling it over his back and eying Cain down. Slowly the ringing in his ear began to fade and the noise of the surrounding world came rushing back at him all at once. The assassin, take advantage of the ever so slight wince Cain made, leaped away, hopping from tree branch to tree branch...how agile.

Cain gave chance, matching the attacker leap for leap as the began heading back to the edge of the forest. The attacker reached for his side arm in between jumps and began firing at his pursuer.

Cain raised his shield, it and he being more than able to handle the fire from what seemed to be a standard issue blaster pistol as he remained right on his tail.

The communicator began to crackle and he heard Annex's voice.

"Found and in pursuit! We're headed back toward you, be ready to pin him down!"

Communications closed as Cain began to pick up his pace in hope of catching his attacker. The clearing was coming up soon and before long....

*CRACK*

The branch underneath his feet gave way, snapping from his weight. The Assassin, alerted to the commotion saw to make the most of it and stopped his running to take carefully aimed shots at Cain as his fell. Cain's skill was more than able to keep himself from being shot but not able to do that as well as make a safe landing.

He hit the ground hard with a *thud* the wind not knocked out of him but his back certainly in pain. The assassin continued his escape heading toward the clear, right toward Annex...

Cain slowly picked himself up off the ground, his body aching...but not broken. He rushed on foot in the hopes of catching up with the assassin in time for him and Annex to corner him.

"Aye, sir," she grunted the moment she had her orders, gathering energy from the ship's supernumerary systems and the surrounding flora to power a lattice-like web that extended outward from her location and toward the unknown assailant. It would have helped if he'd given a description of the sniper to prevent civilian casualty, but at this point, it would be unlikely that such a thing would occur.
"Sir, HQ, extending non-lethal stun web into the trees, hold your position."
The paralyzing web spread into the trees, the voltage far too much for plants to normally handle. They'd soon be warming to the touch and in danger of spontaneous combustion, but not before it snared its prey.
Annex stood with her back to the open hatch, pistol trained on the approaching figure she could feel hopping through the trees. One more bound...
"Gotcha."
And with that, the sniper fell much like a sack of potatoes from his tree-top causeway. Not daring to holster her weapon, Annex took off at a sprint, passively monitoring all the vitals of the armored being through his own suit's equipment. She dropped the stun web the moment she came within range, shrinking it on her advance until she was satisfied with the effect. She knelt to withdraw a set of flex cuffs from her toolbelt, glad that she hadn't lapsed in all areas of her training (What? They made for excellent improvised strapping) and secured the man's wrists behind him, roughly. She kicked aside his weapon even further from his reach before it sunk in.
She wasn't the only Leviiathan here anymore.
Before she could even radio the 'okay', Annex was blasting through the man's helmet circuitry to trigger the unlock sequence, and the visor popped open with a hiss. She fell back on her ass, dropping her hands. SC. Fuck. It was written all over that battle-hardened face, and the neural enhancement lace she could feel. What did she tell Cain? What Circumstances would be deemed Special enough to warrant that unit? Oh, just the fact that she was in the company of an ex-Dolorian general turned brilliant Leviiath tactician. The one that couldn't ever get word back to his people, lest the Leviiath suffer the full wrath of the Dolorian's galactic fleet and the full bearing of the courts for their heinous war crimes.
"Dear Seyta, did you think I was going to tell him? That I was going to turn traitor because you banished me?" She hissed, engaging the mechanisms for the armor's releases with a spark of Finesse. She threw aside the armor pieces as she commenced a rapid body survey. Cuts, bruises, some blood here and there, but he'd live, able to be tortured for a while to come if necessary. There, at his neck, his dog tags. She examined them, but found no information on his unit, as per protocol. She faintly recognized the name, and figured it should be of some importance to her, but she simply couldn't remember.
Deciding she'd taken long enough, she cautiously engaged comms once more. "Sir, target is secure, stun web inactive. Proceed to rendezvous," she intoned without much feeling, focusing on keeping a waver out of her voice. Her adrenaline was fading away, leaving her hands shaking mildly, but it wasn't anything she couldn't handle.

Cain's body came to a sudden and complete halt upon receiving Annex's warning. A stun web, it was a good idea and one he doubted the assassin would know even had. When the two were exiled the left with bare essentials save a few pieces of special gear. If this assassin was a Leviiathan he doubted he would know the extent of their weaponry.

Cain waited for the all clear before journeying from the inner forest and back into the flower plains where both Annex and there captive were waiting. He powered down his energy shield, taken note at how thorough Annex had been toward his capture, but he expected no less from his most trusted partner.

"Good work."

He praised, as he made his away around to her side, patting her shoulder. His hand slowly traveled down her arm to her hand till it came to the hilt of her blaster, and Cain would take it in his own. The stun web's effects were only temporary, and their "guest" would be coming around any moment now.

Cain began his own quick inspection of the man while he asked Annex for the information she was able to gather and between the two them there wasn't much. Like Annex however Cain would also have a faint memory of the man's name, but he couldn't remember from where. His cybernetics defiantly but him as former military, unlike his armor it was no knock off...but that only lead to more questions. Questions that would be answered as so as sleeping beauty woke up.

The man began to cough and grown, clearly coming around and Cain stepped back to gave the man some room to come around. He pointed Annex's blaster right at him so he knew from the moment he woke what the situation was. He was their captive now, and if he wanted to live he'd answer their questions.

"Vel'ryn Vizla...a pleasure" Cain greeted, a stern look on his face. "I am Cain Jast, though I'm sure you already knew that. Tell me, why where you trying to kill me today?"

His questions were only answered with struggle, as Vel'ryn wormed around, trying to break his restraints. It would do him no good, capture was Annex's specialty and it was more likely that Cain would miss this shot rather then him breaking those cuffs.

*Bang*

The barrel of Annex's gun sizzled as a single blaster shot was fired into the shoulder of rather uncooperative prisoner. The smoldering of the gun was a match to the burning hole that now decorated Vel'ryn's shoulder and Cain tossed the gun back to Annex as he crouched down to the wounded man crying out in pain.

"Let's try this again. Why are you trying to kill me?" His words were calm and like ice upon Vel'ryn skin, stinging more than the blaster wound he had just suffered.

Vel'ryn explained how there was a bounty placed on their heads by an official in the Leviiathan Government and that he was more than happy to go after the head of the man responsible for his Brother's death.

Coron Vizla, he remembered. A lieutenant that served under him during the War, smart kid, always looking to prove himself. He recalled giving him that chance, letting him join a boarding who's goal was sneak aboard and take a Dolorian Dreadnought. However it turned into being a suicide mission, as the enemy found out of their operation and gunned them down the moment they got aboard. It had been Cain's first true loss as a Commanding Officer. They found later that the enemy received the information from a mole within, and thou Cain weeded out and ended that traitor's life, the damage had already been done.

Sighing as his stepped away Cain gestured for Annex to take over with the interrogation. He knew Vel'ryn's anger was foolish and misguided, but remembering that loss was....tough on him and he needed a brief moment to clear his head.

Upon his praise, Annex closed her eyes, taking a moment to center herself. Her trigger finger twitched as he land a hand on her arm out of reflex, but thanks to good discipline, her digit lay toward pointing toward the barrel, rather than wrapped around the slender trigger. Despite the momentary lapse, she surrendered her weapon instantly, and maintained her crouch to better control any unexpected movement from the captive.
Apparently the Leviiath was in no mood for questions. She tensed briefly when he began to struggle, but cast her gaze toward Cain before even considering placing herself in his line of fire to... correct the captive's behavior. Luckily for her, it turned out, seeing as Jast was in no more mood for games than his captive. She turned back toward Vizla, watching for any abnormalities in his pain response. She didn't feel comfortable with Cain so close, considering the neutral lace of SC was generally complimented with a variety of body-conquering mods, natural limit breakers, if you will. Drug glands storing useful pain management compounds were the most common. He could very well be faking it.
As Cain moved away, Annex moved to straddle the patient, keeping him pinned with an arm over both his shoulders (ouch) as she placed two fingers to his temples and dove into the memory banks of his neural lace with her Finesse. She ignored his cries of pain and struggling with her superior strength, and verified his story. She saw the inner workings of the SC and the various internal bounty hunters that would no doubt be on their way, as well as speculation toward various others that made her stomach turn.
"I have access to Leviiath intel via his neutral lace," she dropped the 'Sir', her battle instincts all but dormant now that the immediate threat was neutralized. "I've verified his story, and the other names speculated to be on their way aren't going to make you happy. Any queries I should pump out while I have him?"
Annex paused. She could get messages to anyone she cared about back home through this guy, but in doing so would reveal the hack. Currently, she'd barred him from accessing the lace, attuning it instead to her own thought process. Once she released him, she would have to disable the transmitting function of the lace for good, since anything she could do with her mind could be undone by the operative, since she didn't control his biological impulses. And that meant her only tie to home would be gone, too.
For now, she sat tight. Jeopardizing Cain was simply out of the question.

"Make a copy of our pursuers, I wanna be know who exactly they're sending after us." Cain expressed, as he headed back toward the ship.

Her Finesse was always appreciated her skill with cybernetics and tech in general had saved them on multiple occasions. He himself was not born with Finesse a rare few in their society did and while Annex had assured him that he more than made up for his lack of such a skill he couldn't help but feel the tiniest bit jealous.

"...and I wanna know how we were tracked here."

He had his suspicions, the most likely of them being that the Government had simply but a tracker on their ship before there exile, but Cain and Annex had ran multiple scans on their craft since their exile and not once had they ever picked up anything like a tracker in any diagnostic reports.

The situation was unsettling, the idea of their government turning on them even after their exile was displeasing and worse was the idea that the employer of these Bounty Hunters, was working outside of The High Council, meaning their was a traitor in their midst. "And why now?" he wondered, they had been away for so long now, what on earth could of possibly need their Deaths so suddenly that they'd send a score of Hunters after them?

Cain double backed toward Annex, giving her a light pat on the head as he passed her by. The poor fool was in more pain now in her hands than any blaster wound he could inflict, having the information ripped from his mind. He had other explain that it was like have lava swirling in your skull, while others described it as having your brain craved with a knife. Either way Vel'ryn was not going to come out of this day the same, either through permanent brain damage or simply from dying of the pain.

Cain went to Vel's rifle and upon further inspection found that it was a ZHX-7866 Carbon Rifle. "Not bad..." he whispered slinging the gun's straps over his shoulder before heading back over to Annex again.

If anything was clear from this, it was the fact that they couldn't stay here anymore. Even if the handled every single Bounty Hunter on that list, there is always more, and if the Government was truly behind it all they would only tolerate the failure of those Bounty Hunter for so long till they sent their own forces to deal with them.

At the end of the day....it was time to leave...

That last part was a little bit tricky. The assassin did not have the security clearance necessary to obtain that information, but Annex was still able to note the bounty hunters that had viewed the hit, even if some were a little more obscure than others. She didn't have confirmed names and traceable comm lines (it seemed the bounty hunters were being supplied with their coordinates, which made her suspect a highly developed and possibly alien tracking device somewhere here, most likely implanted by Leviiath government), but the messages between assassin and the encrypted sender would have to do. She could puzzle out things later.
Annex paused, her curious gaze focusing on her victim. It chilled her to the bone how little issue she would take with killing the man to protect Cain, a man who as the General of the Dolorians would have and tried desperately to kill her without a second thought. But it did not do to dwell. The man was unconscious now, having succumbed to the agony. While she didn't appreciate being patted on the head, she didn't comment. Instead, with all the information she could gather from him, she secretly hacked backwards, delivering a tiny ping to one of her most trusted brothers, a man that she'd fought side by side with for years. She didn't believe he could have possibly been involved, but she knew him well enough to be certain that he wouldn't take active action against the two of them.
    "We live."

With that sent, she quietly placed her fingers over his eyelids as she delivered the final shock, a killing blow that destroyed his neural lace and any survival mechanisms as safeguards. It was an instant death, kind enough to not weigh too heavily on Annex's conscious. She stood, then, leaving his body where it was as she strolled back to the ship. She had to finish getting that drive into place and allow for the ship to recharge for a few hours, but after that... They'd be gone. Off this stinking planet for good.
