Flashback :: COER Training Facility

Post by Savaj Vanguard » Mon Jan 28, 2019 8:49 pm

-After their Mission briefing Savvy warped her and Cross into one of the hundred underground training studios built within the HQ so they could “warm up” before heading out. The room was a cyberpowered master piece with blue wire and black holo tiles outlining every inch of the room. Upon their entrance the room morphed into an auburn empty canyon in the middle of nowhere. Savaj’ olive colored combat parka was wrapped around her waist and her shades were perched on her forehead.-

“C’mon, let’s get this over with.”

-She said with lifeless effort while putting a bit of distance between them. She struck no formal stance but she did do a couple high knees after facing her only friend.-

“What’re the rules again? I kinda checked out when he miffed me.”

As Cross was mid stretch during the warping sequence, she loss her balance and face planted in the training facility upon reentry.

"Ah fuck...First one to three touches? Or something."

It didn't hurt, but the shock of it all just caught her off guard. She had planned to walk. That's what hallways were for. Well, while she was down here she best continue stretching. Even with her modifications, there were still muscle fibers interwoven with her complex machinery and using her abilities almost guaranteed she pulled a muscle. All in all she agreed though, no sense going in the field cold. Especially if the next delivery of the ferrymen wasn't for another day. Savaj was almost always irritable, but now even more so. Something had to be bugging her.

"You think he's hiding something?"

She said in between groans and deep breaths. Cross' sense of balance, and uncanny flexibility was startling even to the most trained Yogi's and Monks. All self taught. All simply acquired over time watching the arena matches. It was a total bummer sure, but this was peace time. No sense fighting a war and risking lives, that wasn't what they promised the local factions, or the acolytes who entrusted Lumin to them. So... whatever, so long as Cross could keep working.

..he always hidin’ somethin’..

-Savvy’s lips never moved while she struck her rigid combat stance but her words echo’d Cross’ mind like a warm calming breeze. As the two of them were so vividly reminded a few moments ago, Kham has eyes and ears everywhere.. speaking so freely about the Master Advocate often resulted in unforseen consequences for those involved. They’d continue the rest of their conversation in the comfort of their own secured mental channel.-

“Three it is..”

-And with that, their little circuit had bugun and Savaj’s fist had already closed the distance between them before Cross could decipher her words. Her bone gritted knuckles flickering with black blurbs of voltage, intended to sail Cross across the psuedo canyon with earth splitting velocity and telekinetic umph.-

..in this case though it’s somethin’ special.. so personal I could I feel it.. But girl whatever it is, it’s buried DEEP..

By the sound of a mighty crack that dislodged stone and severed mountains in the distance; Savaj's naten electric fist connected, following the uprooting of virtual stone, debris, dust and mantle, which slowly lifted Cross up in the air. Her eyes were agape and her teeth were clenched along with a furrow in her brow. She figured they would at least verbally say "ready go" before they got started. Guess not. She shut her eyes accepting her fate and was appropriately sent flying into the sky, in a back flip. Only before she righted herself by sticking her feet to the sky above her, just above Savaj's head. Now Cross stood inverted, above Savaj, on nothing at all awash with a glow of white Naten; with she (Savaj) still down below; the energy absorbed from Savaj's punch, which was likely to thank for her jaw not being broken.

"I guess that means go."

Thought Cross as she pushed herself off of space itself down toward Savaj for a series of punches, the energy absorbed from Savaj's own strikes making Cross' own that much stronger and faster. Like pistons on a machine they sounded, consecutive and explosive.

..have you ever seen another Michio..

-Savvy thought with her head tilted upward before expelling a whirlwing of telekinetic force from her feet that shoveled gravel from the earth and shot her toward Cross like an arrow. In seconds her forearms met her partner’s fists and the sound of cybernetics smashing bone rolled through the heavens like thunder.

It took a keen mind and steady eyes to even catch a glimpse of the two assassins exchange fury. They danced through the artificial clouds at light bending velocities but Cross’ magnified abilities were keeping Savvy on the defensive..

She was busy trying to get a point across.-

..And I’m not talkin’ about Kayla, Tajsa, or any of his kids.. I mean another one of.. him-

Throughout their flickering bout Savvy must’ve guarded against three thousand separate jabs, backhands, and sharp elbows before one of Cross’ strikes managed to peel a slab of skin from Savvy’s cheek.-

“..ouch!”

-Her green eyes went snow white in response to the near miss and she focused all of her psionic muscle into dragging Cross back to Vescrutia’s surface with malicious force. In the following moment, it felt as if Savvy warped the planet’s gravitational pull to the thousandth degree and hopefully caught the little speed demon off guard.-

Cross' had figured she had the upper hand in the CQC department, if she was psychic she would just subdue enemies from afar or confuse them with subtlety and finesse but to no surprise Savaj was matching her blow for blow. However Cross (technically and literally) had three minds. One was her human brain that elicited emotional responses, the other two were supercomputers dedicated to memory and reflexive responses linked to her AI, her Cordis Nova, Pandora. The three of them worked in tandem to adapt to this furious exchange of blows and quickly found openings in Savaj's guard that peeled raw flesh from her cheek like a filet knife. It was a glancing blow, but it was satisfying. Despite her hardened exterior, Savaj had cathartically soft skin. And its sundering made Cross smile.

Pure Michio? No he killed them all.

She was going to follow up with Savaj on the defensive but something was yanking her down from her vantage point, no time to theorize it's origins. She couldn't absorb it either. Just ride the wave she did, crashing down to the ground, and into Savaj with Cross' hands upon her shoulders, locking her in an intense grapple, that only intensified the crater they made.

You think a survivor has him spooked?

It made sense though, Kham wasn't just the strongest she knew. He also fought like it. And something out there was keeping him hostage in his chair. Maybe a survivor of the genocide with a vengeance?

I mean, it all make sense in my head but..

Ugh!!

-Cross was smart as hell. With the amount of force Savaj put into slamming her into the ground, she should have tore directly through canyons crust and into its molten mantle like a speeding comet. But Cross’ quick maneuvers twisted the psychic into cushioning the fall to the best of her ability.. for her sake.

Even still the crater from the descent was sizable due to the initial velocity and the frustrated expression on Savvy’s face insinuated she may have forgotten this was a just spar.-

..

-Blood trickled down her cheek like tears but in the following moments Cross would feel that same suffocating pressure encroaching from every angle. Savvy’s cloudy gaze intensified into its own little storm as she moved to bind her friend with a billion little telekinetic webs... and fling her immobile body across the auburn wasteland. Hopefully into something rigid and painful.-

Of course Sav's mind still worked with her body immobilized. It was an idiot move on Cross' part but one of the only one's she had. What surprised her though was that Sav stalled Cross out enough before she could finesse the takedown, snap her neck and end the simulation. She was packing some serious strength from under there, and had an almost equal prowess in Cross' own explosive fighting style and her thorough knowledge of grapples. Did she? Or was she being read. There was no real way to know, that was the mind game in itself. And it was very frustrating. All of this was going through Cross' mind as she was repelled backward across the canyon through dust and debris, it was like she was on an invisible aircraft, with no control over her body. Must different than the contact of a punch, a blow she could absorb and manipulate. But this psychic force couldn't be. Now that she thought about it, it was like a blow from Des'Noir, it hurt, it moved you, but it exerted no force...

UGH!

Cross slammed against a mountain and knocked her out of her fleeting thought. Sometimes her brains overlapped and distracted her from the more pertinent tasks, like trying not to become a flap-jack for instance. She felt glued to the craggy mountainside, stones stabbing her in the back that cut her skin open. But she decided to ride this out, stay here for a bit. She actually needed the distance to do what she was going to do next.

"HEY! Are you reading my mind now!? Like talking is one thing. But can you talk to people and read at the same time? Be honest."

She shouted. as she slid down the mountainside, snapping her shoulder back into place. Instantly tiny micro-sized nanites began stitching her biocomponents back together.

“That’s not cheating is it?”

-She projected coyly across the horizon, leaping from her tiny crater and wiping her face clean. She reached her hand out to telekinetically reassemble her shattered shades and perched them back in her hair.-

“..I ain’t dig too far, but that arm lock almost snapped my clavicle into a jagged dagger.. Where’d you learn to fight like that?”

-Cross’ cybernetic enhancements explained her small frame and superb physical ability but her knoweldge of the bodies weaknesses akined her to practiced surgeon. Their ground splitting grappling match would’ve ended with Cross literally bending Savvy into a pretzel if the psychic didn’t scour Cross’ EXPANSIVE arsenal of martial arts and master her every technique. Mak’Gora was a dense discipline of lethal takedowns, immobilization techniques, and swift executions. Only a handful of people could utilize its limb contorting maneuvers, Savvy would need to stretch if she ever wanted to mimic it again.-

“I thought you were a techie, dark web, assassin nerd.”

-She joked while working the kink out of her neck, trying to anticipate Cross’ next move.-

“Nah you’re good.”

Cross replied and wound her arm in a windmill fashion, it seemed her nanites finished the stitching. Savaj sounded almost concerned. It was really cute. At least her arm healed up, she’s have to rest to make the connection more permanent, but it would hold against another blow. She stretched out her shoulder just to make sure it fit right. And it felt almost like new. Savaj’s presence her mind was virtually undetectable... a terrifying ability. Which had to be why Kham looked so still in her presence, did he have some way to keep fleeting thoughts from passing his mind? Was he even breathing in the briefing room? Shit.

And one of Cross’ martial arts was compromised. Shit times two. You could always tell she was overworking her thoughts because her emotional receptors just didn’t work, she’d laugh at Savaj’s joke if she heard it all the way through. Cross did have a certain aesthetic l. But she answered an honest question with an honest question. Cross was just observant.

“I can just pick up on shit. Mostly from The Abyss. People came all over to fight. And i just watched begging for food. I can just, pick up on things having seeing it once, maybe twice if it’s exceptionally quick. But copying people’s moves is dumb. I’d rather just counter them with my own unique stuff.”

Being terribly observant wasn’t a superpower, neither was having a photographic memory. Cross was a piss poor street urchin. All she did was watch people. And watch she did until their movements and mannerisms impressed themselves in her body, down to speech and shit. Maybe she was fit for the field afterall. She sighed and looked toward the sky. Time for another test on herself.

“Anyway. I’m gonna turn my brain off now.”

She yelled toward Savaj. And slipped her hand into her pocket and pulled out a series of thumb drives. All had preloaded combat algorithms on it for situations in which Cross was knocked unconscious, because she had a few brains, all mechanical, her body could act for her and emit data whilst reacting to the opponent. Maybe this would work. It was worth the risk. But she wouldn’t be able to stop until the workflow was complete. She’d know if she won by the end of it.

“See you in a bit.”

And she jammed the flash drive into her ear and gave it a twist. Cross body went limp and she collapsed to the ground with a ginger thump. All readings of Naten emitting from her hyperdrive engines and biocomponents were also off. She needed to reboot upon loading new software. But this is why she took some distance, the rebooting process is when she was most vulnerable.
