COER Files 035 :: Savaj's Last Recorded Mission

Post by Ves » Mon Feb 04, 2019 7:29 pm

There were many places on The Mother's surface where her two suns pass overhead all too frequently, drying out her skin, scabbing the place over, and making life on its surface dangerously uninhabitable. The Blood Dunes was one of these places. Where her Pink flaming sphere imprinted on the grains and turned them a blood red pigment, and when the storms came and rained down warm tears from the few clouds that did pass overhead, the entire place looked like a vat of blood. Here in the intense heat, wiry Trees, thin little things, of ebony black, appropriately called 'Veins' sprouted from the crimson sands and took upon a variety of shapes, twisting searching eternally for the sun. Some grew as tall as twenty feet, yet because they were so thin, they offered no shade from the intense heat that came from above. The sand seared on overhead, it was midday and both the orbs pierced the surface below with flaming swords, burning the flesh off of any unprotected thing that walked along this surface. Which is why the mysterious Ferrymen , a notorious intergalactic band of traffickers wore their all black robes. From their head to their feet they were covered, size, stature, and even sex were camouflaged among them, but they all carried a large black, stone tablet with the same symbol that seemed to not weigh them down in the slightest. Their threads were interwoven with resistance fabrics to shocks, temperature, and nigh every invisible wave of attack. In the distance, they could be seen numbering a small dozen, walking across the sands along side eight figures in equally peculiar Robes with energetic chains connecting them to each other by their hands and feet. These were the ceremonial robes of sacrifice, marked all over with the brand of the Ferrymen, precious cargo, not for sale, and not to be touched unless paid for in blood. They were on their way to make a very special delivery to their buyer, SILK who had an unknown use for such large quantities of women. But it was up to Savaj and Cross to stop him. Unfortunately for them, the Ferrymen expected resistance, and while they were all adept and combat, repeated resistance from COER, required special, hirable, attention. So not only were there black robed figures among their ranks, but bolstering their numbers were three Assassin Bots as well. Skilled in surveillance, reconnaissance and murder.

Exhausted from the walk, one of the robed sacrifices fell to the ground, dragging the others down with her. The ferrymen closest to her looked down upon her and tucked his index finger under her cheek, the robed offering shuddered, expecting some sort of strike, slap, or terrible infliction of pain. Instead, he reached into his cloak and pulled out a canteen, he handed it to the woman and she drank from it generously. It was SILKS direct instructions that these women were not to be harmed unlike the many others. The ever so generous Ferrymen, motioned to his others and they nodded in silence. Perhaps it was time to take a rest. Hydrate the women. And make a final push for the lab in a few minutes. SILK would appear at the desired dimensional coordinates anyhow.

"They're stopping. Wanna go now?"

Came a mental buzz to her partner from Cross, cloaked, off in the distance, nowhere in particular, with eyes honed on the Ferrymen. Mission report had told her that one of these 8 women was a COER agent, who had been falling repeatedly every so often to leave tracks in the sand. That bitch needed a raise, she had no idea who Kham could convince someone to get captured on purpose, in hopes that she would be rescued. What if Cross and Savaj never came? She shook the idea from her mind. Just a casual reminder that she was not meant to go undercover.

Somehow the Ferrymen's cloaks rendered them invisible to Cosmic Awareness, and conventional means of tracking, but good ol fucking footprints did the trick. In her bodysuit, Cross was resistant to the heat, but even with it on her biometrics were far above normal, and nowhere near comfortable. And she couldn't absorb the heat without looking like a vacuum cleaner to the Assassin bots down below. It's almost like they knew who was coming after them. With a quick scan, the bots were decked out with the latest tech, Naten inhibitors, shock absorbing plates, gyroscopic maneuverability, and looks like they were emitting a very strong radio frequency from their skulls. Surpressing psychic waves? Well so much for their ace in the hole.

I can drop one of the bots, but after that we'll be exposed. I don't know, your call. don't try to probe them, they'll pin point your location. Unless, maybe you can trick them into thinking we're somewhere else?

Savaj had a cloaking device too, tucked under her jacket, as well as a field suit, similar to the one Cross was wearing to keep her from heat, cold, and various degrees of physical damage: ballistics, blades, and shit like that. It was her call. They needed to wait until the lab appeared before they ambushed the ferrymen and set the women free.

-Savaj watched the stark exodus through omniscient astral lenses with her legs styled in a meditative trance, several dozen miles away from any and everything. She was levitating a few inches above the molten sands with her green eyes resting comfortably beneath her hooded cloak. Her mind was taking a comprehensive psionic survey of the Blood Dunes that stretched well beyond a three hundred mile radius. NEVER in her eighteen years had she considered stalking through this arid wasteland. Even with her psychic barriers and contingencies, the unholy storm of solar intensity was torturous to endure for prolonged periods of time. Still, Savvy committed her tele-map of the arid hellscape to memory before she responded. It only took a second.

..it looks like they were waiting for us.. For me honestly. Incoming..

-Savvy whispered through their private channel before seamlessly uploading the detailed telepathic map of the area into Cross’ subconscious. If she focused, Cross could see the field from the overcasting eyes of god. Every grain and detail would be accessible for her with a thought, forever. Just in case she got lost or they got separated amidst the sands. At the moment, Savvy was keeping her distance as to not alert the Ferrymen’s sensitive survellience drones to her presence but it wasn’t as if she couldn’t effectively extend her prescence across tremendous distances. They remembered her.. The Ripper left her mark in their ranks that echoed into preventative protocols, but Savvy didn’t need to be next to Cross to provide her the greatest cover fire she’d ever seen. Unfortunately, this was a rescue mission and stealth was the name of the game.-

Well.. we could take them out, drain their brains, and dawn their veils before they bled out, but I just know we’d be made the instant we strike. I can’t get a read on this guy’s lab, castle or whatever the hell he’s hiding in out he’a but I know a guy this obessed with being a recluse is gonna’ have cameras everywhere. It’s not subterranean, I’d at least know if it was concealed in enchantments, but shit this fucker is good. I don’t wanna’ make a move until we see an access point.

-It pained her to remain so reserved, especially after she preeched to Kham about taking the direct and bloody approach to the Ferrymen’s door, but to ignore past experiences would damn them both. No matter how quickly and efficiently they dispatched their enemy, they’d tip off Miguel’s unseen eye. It left a bad taste in her mouth, worse than the crimson grains pelting against her lip, but she curled them with her emotions.-

’Sides, it looks like their gettin’ the royal treatment.. Done’ fixed up their policies since I left, huh?

-Sarcasm aside, Savvy knew this tiny faction couldn’t atone for the entire syndicates sins. They were scum and her fingers were literally itching to grind them into powdery particles and smoke them. But she kept her cool despite the heat.-

Yeah, they're definitely not your average slavers. Shipping and handling instructions maybe?

Cross' hands were wrapped around her Longshot rifle. A weapon of terrifying range and magnification optics that allowed her to see from an incredibly safe distance, and her index finger twitched if the COER undercover operative's safety was compromised but when she saw her just get water. Cross exhaled and relaxed. She even took her hand of the gun entirely. Maybe waiting around here in the desert wasn't so bad after all. Still, that bitch needed a raise. Or a vacation after this. She shut her eyes and looked through Savaj's unique vantage point. Nothing but sand and weird trees for miles, there were the dunes where they were, some dips and ditches in the sands eerie terrain where they could make some cover but besides that? Nothing. The Assasin bots looked to their peers and nodded. They glided across the sand with a graceful poise and boxed in their employees like sentries.

Looks like they're making a stand here.

The enemy did appear to be fortifying themselves for the night. Cross sighed and opened her eyes again, they needed a distraction, something to mask them from SILK and The Ferrymen, something big. She got it. She practically screamed the idea in their linked minds.

Did you read up on the ecology of this place? The Sand Worms underneath the surface?

Beneath the Blood Dunes were these giant worms! Even recalling those snake like creepy crawlies grossed Cross out, made her shiver. They fed off the sand itself, these weird metallic trees called Veins, and the occasional surface walking dweller.

Teh, if we’re on the same page, then you might wanna’ get behind something. Them muh’fuckas big.

-She advised with a soft smirk before her eyes flared open into blistering emerald embers. Savvy was well aware of The Sand Wyrm species and knew they were among Vescrutia’s carnivorous masterpieces. They haunted this already tormenting biome uncontested from sundown to sun up; their unique exoskeletons shielded them from the egregious pressures and heat of the region, while their razor thin hairs picked up on the faintest vibrations. They were ferocious, blind and always hungry. However, the alignment of celestial bodies orbiting the planet this time of year made the scorch of The Blood Dunes absolutely unbearable and forced the enormous creatures into hibernation from the severe lack of food treading its sands. They forged nest beneath the ocean of red sediments where they fattened themselves on scavenged materials in separate hives across the deserts to avoid clashes over sustenance.

Whoever chose this time and location for a place of operation certainly did their homework. They practically teraformed the ecosystem into their own fortress with built in security. Making this trek today at this particular time and coordinates had probably been an equally calculated decision.

Pity.

..here they come..

-Cross wouldn’t need her warning. The sands rippled around her and her rifle like quivering waves in a shallow pond, jostling across the planet’s crust from rhythmic tremors that throttled everything above it to the core. Savvy wasn’t even touching the ground yet she could feel several of the subterranean leviathans burrowing in accordance to her psionic commands.

The Ferrymen’s hyper advanced sentinels were immediately alerted to the abnormal seismic activity and took on preventative formations. The sun beaten sacrifices couldn’t find their footing and quivered in horror from the encroaching unknown while their masked traffickers compared transfixed expressions. Savaj, with her psionic sights locked, folded her fingers into a tight cage caused the rumbling desert to fall silent. She hushed them, curbing their insatiable hunger with a telepathic stranglehold.

We obviously only get one shot at this.. You ready?

Cross nodded to herself from her distant vantage point, she shrugged it off instantly, forgetting to say something.

Yeah... Wait for my signal.

Did she need to say anything? Cant' Savaj see her? Psychics are complicated. After their spar, Savaj had broken down to Cross the various useful applications of fighting alongside her but there were things she could do that weren't scientific in the least bit, or just plain bizarre.

With the party of hostiles and hostages prepped for a very unpleasant surprise from beneath, Cross noticed one of the Ferrymen communicate with the others in confidence luckily she could hear. She shut her eyes and lent Savaj her hearing. It was a weird process, it felt like she was sharing a body with someone, but Savaj insisted it was simply her sharing what the impressions of the sounds registered as, not her actual ears. Didn't help though.

You gettin this?

Their voices were loud and clear thanks to Cross ear implants.

"Contact SILK, tell him he needs to hurry the fuck up the Worms are awake."

"It's just an earthquake, they only surface during the winter and at night."

"Look, I'm not taking any chances. And I wanna get paid so, just-"

"Aye I was here during a worm attack, just let him know cuz-"

"Alright alright!"

One of the black robbed figures stepped away to confer by themselves. The others talked amongst each other with the metallic sentries poised and ever observant.

Hey that tremor spooked them enough. Looks like he may show early. Hold up he's coming back

"He said he's moving the lab now, doesn't sound happy."

"I don't give a fuck how he feels. If he wants his offerings he'll come get em. I've seen Thirsties do more for less"

"Yeah... Well he'll be here soon so, sit tight."

Okay. So, new plan?

Offerings?

-With that phrase alone, this faction of The Ferrymen could have dismantled COER’s entire operation in one trauma triggering swoop. Hearing others referred to as cattle, stock, stired up some heavy psychological baggage that had Savvy’s eloquently bottled fury had boiled into a frothy broth. The emerald gleam bleeding through her furrowed gaze telepathically instilled her subterranean strike team with vindication. The desert responded in sundering, thunderous quakes that churned the thick desert into rivers but by a miracle, that was all. Savaj managed to curb her emotions before they transitively spilled over into the hive of salivating Sand Wyrms and burrowed them deeper into Desert.-

Line’em up..

-Savvy’s hands shifted between several gestures that directed the Sand Wyrms into a particular formation; several were positioned to create a haze of massive chaos when they surfaced, which would provide Cross with some prime cover. Should they be needed that it is.. If this guy could truly, “move”, his entire laborartory on an irritated whim their plans would have to be equally flexible. Nothing concrete. They didn’t need to force an opening when their target was coming to them. Still, they could’t let them escape by any means. She managed to calm her gaze into a frosty glare.

That’s when she saw one of The Ferrymen’s sentinel drones tap a few buttons on it’s wrist before it’s body faded into the shimmering rays of light. It activated its cloaking technology and prepared to do a thorough sweep of the region before sending signal for Miguel to arrive.-

Shit, did you see that?

"SHIT!"

Cross screamed, and she was compromised. A blast of force and a geyser of sand erupted on the horizon where the Sun was the brightest, followed by the disappearing of the Assassin Bots and the sequential cadence of a second, a third and a fourth blast thereafter. In the aftermath? 5 streaks drew deep lines of sand on the horizon, scattering waves of dust in their wake with a bluish streak in the front of the pack, and four silver ones trailing behind. Cross was being hunted, with four of the assassin bots behind her. They dueled along the horizon, striking with her bladed appendages and trading gunfire, filling the silent desert with the symphony of war. She held her own with a ballerinas grace, countering and intercepting their physical strikes while taking their automatic gun-fire to her body, absorbing the shock to fuel her blows. Though judging by the scars on her cheeks, the tears to her clothing, she was quickly being overwhelmed.

"ACTIVATE THE KEY!"

Shouted the Ferrymen, all of the women except one were in a panic, the latter was eerily, and dangerously calm. But the transaction had been compromised, time to move the product for another day. In the panic the Ferrymen bullied the Women into a close knit circle like shepherd to cattle with one of the Ferrymen, holding a large black tablet to begin reciting an incantation. Space around them began to bend, twist and swell, the delivery had been compromised. The undercover COER agent, the eerily calm women broke her shackles with terrifying strength, removed her hood and pounced upon the Ferrymen who was responsible for the Warping spell. With surgical precision his throat was cut, splattering his blood among the red sands darkening the grains to a purplish color. With their attention drawn to her, and the Ferrymen's back turned, Cross' analytical brain shouted to Savaj who was undoubtedly thinking the same thing.

SAVAJ GO!

-With Cross playing aggro and drawing away the Ferrymen’s defenses, Savvy was free to work her magic and she wasted no time. From her remote location amidst the desert, Savvy’s arm reached toward the group of women and threaded their limbs with her murderous intent. The emerald blister in her eyes spread to each of them and telepathically twisted their fear into blood lust. The group of women turned their robed bodies to face their captors, twitching with new found combat anxiety. The Ferrymen were too distracted by the combative COER agent to see the women adopt formation behind them. They circled their oppressors and coiled the shackles bruising their wrists into instruments of death. They strangled the Ferrymen’s, crushing their throats using strength that would have normally transcended them.

Savaj appeared among them through a similar distortion in space. Her cloak had been tossed to the wayside, revealing the majestic circuitry interlining her battle suit. The emerald light spilling from her eyes blinded the women covered in the Ferrymen’s blood, and robbed them of their courage. They shuddered at the Psion’s sudden presence, bogged down by fear and shock of what they had done.-

Ease up now. Ya’ safe, take five..

-Savvy’s hand waved over their spooked face and all of them, save for the COER spy, lifelessly collapsed into the red sands. Telekinetically, Savvy hastily disrobbed the group of women, along with two of the viciously murdered of Ferrymen. She tossed the admirable spy one of the trafficker’s enchanted uniforms before dressing herself in the sacrificial garbs along with six of the Ferrymen’s corpses. The leftovers she buried in the sand for the Sand Wyrms to scavenge later.-

“If you can stand, I’ma need you to put them on. Job’s not done yet, sis.”

-She had to shout through the bullet storm ensuing behind her, but Imani’ was already moving with urgency. The 29 year old spy had never personally met Savvy, she may have read through her files along with several other friendly COER operatives, but she didn’t need a lecture in the chain of command to follow orders. Imani dressed herself quickly, tucking her head and shoulder length locs into the Ferrymen’s amorphous cloak as swiftly as possible. Savvy clapped her hands and unleashed a vibrational frequency that reopened the Ferrymen’s spatial aperture and high jacked the warp gate to teleport the unconscious group of women directly to the Nightmare Infirmary. She waved her hand, and telekinetically reanimated the traffickers and disguised them in the sacrficial garb.-

Cross, I’m clear and payload’s secure. I’m disguised in the sacrificial robe, and I’m controlling the dead guys fill in for the rest of’em. I’ve got you one of the Ferrymen’s cloaks cuz’ I figure you’d be a better trafficker than I would. This, uhh.. Agent Imani’ is gonna be helpin’ us out. You kill those robots yet?

-At this moment, Savvy was telepathically digesting the Ferrymen’s information while Imani’ caught her breath. Cross had given her two whole minutes to complete her intricate role in this mission, and she hadn’t spoken since. Savvy couldn’t stress about her until now.. but damn was she stressing.-

“Does it-“

And she was grazed along the shoulder from the bot in front. Cross stepped into the blow with her elbow to the cans face sawed it off it’s shoulders, steam oozing out of her suit venting Naten like an engine of war sounding every bit like a thundering machination, a flying machine of hell. She was too focused, but couldn’t help but be the slightest bit elated in these split life or death decisions. Their first round of instruction under The Destroyer, nicknamed “Michio Madness” by it’s survivors- Cross, Savaj, Kayla, Atra and Tj respectively, was to never fear pain. ‘Your opponent is most vulnerable when you are most vulnerable.’ It was hilarious how often trading lethal blows worked. Finally, one down.

“Sound-“

She ducked afterward, Letting another blade pass overhead from behind. The suns’s rays danced along the bladed edge, splattering it’s rays along the ground around Cross. The other two engaged her from both sides splattering her with gun fire. Her bodies natural energy increased her reaction time to startling levels though, reducing her enemies movement speed to a crawl. Hastily she drew her thermal knife, deflecting the bullets elsewhere in a finessed flourish of wrist work. Some rounds managed to graze her thigh and neck but the pain was irrelevant now. She planted her free hand into the sand and rotated, kicking the sword swinging bots legs from under him. She rose up thereafter and dug her knife into the head of the can and cranked the handle several clicks in less than a second.

“Like I’m done?“

Cross winced, the bot melted into liquid silver chunks. The heat of the thermal knife doing its work well. But she was stabbed in the back. Like some demonic spinning top Cross’ torso rotated around on her hips and she beheaded the final bot, melding it on impact, splattering it’s innards across the desert. She stopped. Took a breath. Awayed her tech. She looked like she was tossed in an overheating blender, steaming from a long spin cycle. Her head found the sky.

“I’m done. Rendezvousing in a moment. Didn’t even have to bring the boys out.”

“The Boys”? Her pistols. Still sleeping in their holsters. Hungry. And awfully quiet. It was Cross’ own weakness to experiment with her tech and her shock absorbing suit was under the microscope at the expense of her own safety. Sure she could have dropped all the bots quicker, but why waste the field test opportunity? Cross took off in a jog toward Savaj and Imaní while uploading the data on her cloaking, field suits to her central computer. Imaní? The bitch needed a raise. Yet none of them get paid. Except for Savaj who was getting paid in revenge.

“How do we know SILK hasn’t seen us already?”

She said as she arrived. If SILK was a genius, and he was. He would just have the bots wirelessly upload events real time through their optics like her own cameras. But maybe his lab was too far? Cross’ brain was already anticipating their next step. She looked Savaj over, not a scratch on her Among a marionette show of Ferrymen and ‘Offerings’. Shit was totally creepy. And the robes disguised conventional means of sensing to they looked like Normal to even Cross’ enhanced vision. Iamní On the other hand looked like shit. Out of breath, lips, feet, and skin raw from the walk. Dreads matted with swear but a lovely brown beauty nonetheless, Similar to Savaj. SILK had a type obviously and Kham did his research.

“Here.”

Cross reached in her pocket tossed her a LYFE syringe. A needle filled with glistening white Naten. Gaia’s tears. Literally. Shit defied science. And cured any and all wounds. By Khams orders, All Cross did was make it portable. Every attempt to enhance or channel it render it inert.

“You guys are gonna need it. No thanks.”

She tossed it back to Cross who kept it.

“We should move aren’t the worms coming?”

She continued. Cross just smiled as she donned the robes.
