Yaarou Tribe

Post by Hitomi Yaarou »

Lore and Legacy

The Yaaru Clan is a deeply revered and feared shinobi tribe with a legacy stretching over 11,000 years. This ancient clan has survived the test of time through an unwavering dedication to the secret arts of Hexcraft, a mysterious ability bestowed upon them through Orion’s Pact. According to legend, this pact was made with Orion, the Fallen Kami of Fate, who rebelled against the heavens, using forbidden techniques to manipulate and alter the destiny of man.

Exiled and vengeful, Orion offered his gifts to the Yaaru Clan’s ancestors in return for their loyalty. But, ultimately, as a tool to enact his vengeance upon the divine order.

Orion’s Pact

Hexcraft-- a rare arbiter accessible to select members of the clan that allows them to generate "hexes", that subtly warp probability. Less than 5% of the Yaarou Clan possesses any form of Hexcraft, and those born with this gift are regarded with reverence and trained rigorously from childhood, often rising to prominence within the clan.

The Fallen

Those who misuse their Hexcraft or become corrupted by Orion’s curse suffer physical and spiritual degradation, turning into beings known as “Fallen.” These afflicted members are exiled or hunted by the clan, as their uncontrolled powers corrupt the fabric of fate, leaving a trail of reality-warping misfortune in their wake.

The Hexless

Those born without Hexcraft, known as the Hexless, are far from ordinary. They undergo rigorous training in Ephemeral Arts (Genjutsu, Ninjutsu, and Taijutsu) mastering the arts of combat, subterfuge, and shinobi techniques.

Balance and Discipline

For the Yaarou, Hexcraft is a sacred gift that must be balanced with discipline and respect for its potential dangers. They instill values of loyalty, and reverence for Orion’s pact, teaching each generation to avoid the lure of unrestrained power. Clan members are taught that unchecked ambition or reckless use of Hexcraft leads only to ruin.

Secrecy, Preservation, Internal Tensions

The clan is intensely protective of its history and abilities. The full nature of Hexcraft and Orion’s Pact is known only to a select few elders and the clan’s crowned leader. Knowledge of their ancient techniques, artifacts, and lore is guarded within hidden sanctuaries, ensuring that the clan’s mystical heritage remains secure.

The Yaarou’s divided structure between Hexcrafters and Hexless, brings both unity and tension. Some Hexless warriors feel burdened by the inherent risks of using cursed artifacts without the natural control of Hexcraft, while Hexcrafters struggle against the dark allure of their powers. Maintaining balance is an ongoing challenge, but it remains a core aspect of the clan’s identity.

Orion’s influence also looms over the Yaarou, casting a shadow that reminds them of the price of power. The clan teaches its members to guard against the thirst for dominance, knowing that those who fail to respect this balance may fall victim to the same rebellion and ruin that cursed Orion himself.

The Gōkùdo Corporation

The Yaarou Clan, though heavily influenced by its ancient traditions, has evolved into a complex organization blending legacy with innovation. Still fiercely loyal to their secretive heritage, the Yaarou are a powerful entity with a carefully maintained presence in both legitimate and clandestine spheres of influence.

--In contemporary society, the Yaarou Clan operates under the guise of the Gōkùdo, a transnational, organized mercenary and security corporation. Publicly, they offer specialized security services, private protection, and consulting in counter-intelligence, all backed by a vast network of allies and legitimate financial assets. However, beneath this facade, they are a shadow organization involved in activities such as intelligence gathering, black-market weapons trade, human trafficking, high-stakes assassinations, and strategic manipulation of economic and political landscapes.

Leadership and Structure

The Yaarou Clan is divided into three primary factions:

–The Main Branch: Oversees clan leadership, governs internal affairs, and preserves the ancient traditions and secrets of Hexcraft.

–The Outer Branch: Acts as the face of the Yaarou in the public and corporate world, managing business assets and public relations while subtly enforcing the Clan's influence on political and economic power structures.

–The Hidden Branch: Specializes in espionage, assassination, and other clandestine operations, executing tasks that align with the clan’s goals while staying out of public view. The Gōkùdo are an extension of this.

Each faction works in harmony, collectively supporting the aim of expanding the Yaarou's influence across the world without compromising their secrecy.

Their clan is governed by a Council of Elders, composed of highly skilled Hexcrafters and key family heads, each responsible for a specific aspect of the clan’s operations. However, ultimate power lies with the Clan Head, also known as the Paragon —a title inherited by the strongest member, and sole inheritor of the "Ring of Hatred." This title comes with supreme authority over the clan's actions and serves as a binding symbol of loyalty and heritage.

Training and the Role of Hexcraft

Although few are born with the gift of Hexcraft, it remains the clan’s defining feature and the most revered skill among the Yaarou. Training is rigorous, beginning from childhood and overseen by a select council of elders who have mastered their abilities and endured countless trials. These sentinels act as both mentors and enforcers, ensuring that trainees respect the power and limitations of Hexcraft while teaching them the complex arts of stealth, manipulation, and combat.

Technology, Artifacts, and the Black Market

The Yaarou Clan exhibits a fascinating blend of ancient knowledge and cutting-edge technology. They have seamlessly incorporated modern tools and weaponry into their operations, including surveillance systems, encrypted communications, and advanced weaponry, many of which are enhanced through Hexcraft. Despite this modernization, the Yaarou hold firm to their traditional reliance on Hexed Artifacts.

A thriving underground trade market exists for these artifacts and is primarily managed by the Gōkódu, with clients ranging from wealthy nobles to entire nations interested in using Hexcraft to augment their own military forces. However, these artifacts are exclusive and prohibitively expensive, often requiring a show of loyalty in order to obtain.

Not only do these sales help fund the Syndicate’s vast network, but they are also a method of binding potential allies and ensuring continued influence over prominent figures and organizations worldwide.

Social Dynamics and Tensions

Yaarou culture is defined by the delicate balance between the Hexcrafters and the Hexless. While Hexcrafters are naturally esteemed for their innate abilities, the Hexless make up the majority of the clan and are regarded as equally important for the clan’s prosperity. However, some latent tension exists between these groups, especially given the dangers and unpredictability of wielding Hexed Artifacts.

Notable Clan Heads

I. Kaede, the Spectral Shadow

--Era: The First Pact (circa 10,000 years ago)
Special Abilities: Echo Hexes, Wraith’s Veil

As the Yaaru Clan’s first notable leader, Kaede laid the foundations that transformed the tribe from a band of warriors into one of the deadliest orders of assassins. Recognizing the potential of Hexcraft to enhance stealth and precision, she developed intensive training that intertwined the tribe’s abilities with advanced combat arts. Under Kaede’s disciplined guidance, the Yaaru Clan became renowned for their silent, lethal tactics and their exceptional skill in infiltration and espionage. During her rule, she was given the Ring of Hatred from a powerful and legendary shinobi– a man whom she loved, before his ambition for power betrayed those closest to him.

Kaede emphasized mental fortitude, patience, and efficiency, instilling an ethos that focused on eliminating targets with minimal conflict. Her legacy remains woven into the clan’s core principles, shaping the Yaaru as an order defined by control, precision, and unyielding loyalty to the shadows. It was her will that the Ring if Hatred be inherited by the Clan's Head, serving as both an heirloom and powerful trophy for whomever is crowned.

---

II. Rii’ku, the Stormbringer

--Era: The War of Tribes (circa 3,000 years ago)
Special Abilities: Veil of Catastrophe, Probability Shift

Rii’ku rose to power during the turbulent War of Tribes, an era marked by fierce rivalry among clans, and most notably, the Fall of the Denkoushi. The Yaarou’s reputation as masters of fate and shadow had incited envy and fear, making them a target for other tribes. Rii’ku’s mastery of Hexcraft allowed him to control the forces of fortune and elemental catastrophe, earning him the name “Stormbringer.” Charismatic and fiercely protective of the clan, Rii’ku expanded the Yaaru’s influence by pioneering weaponry and techniques for the clan’s “Hexless” members, making them equally formidable in combat.

Arming the Hexless

Riku developed methods for crafting hexed weapons, imbuing them with enhancements such as increased speed, strength, or limited Hexcraft-like effects. These artifacts allowed Hexless members to wield powerful abilities, leveling the playing field and reinforcing loyalty within the clan.

Rise of the Gōkùdo Corporation

Seeking resources and alliances, Rikku began trading hexed weapons to outsiders, transforming the Yaarou from a clan of assassins to a feared, international criminal corporation. Under his rule, the organization trafficked and hexed artillery to kingdoms and clans alike, solidifying the tribe’s influence across vast territories beyond that of Edo. This profitable trade elevated the clan’s prosperity, allowing them to recruit, expand, and even sponsor covert operations.

---

III. Aoi, the Veiled Whisper

--Era: The Twilight of Shadows (circa 700 years ago)
Special Abilities: Silence of Fates, Shadow’s Embrace

Aoi’s leadership marked a period known as the Twilight of Shadows, a time when the clan’s power led to internal corruption. Some members, influenced by Orion’s pact, misused their Hexcraft for personal gain. Known as the “Veiled Whisper,” Aoi was a reclusive yet insightful leader whose mastery of fate manipulation made her the clan’s greatest tactician. However, her legacy was truly elevated to the higher caliber of history due to her innovations in Hexcraft.

Her subtle yet powerful techniques allowed her to perceive and influence future events through visions in her dreams, a skill that proved invaluable for rooting out corruption within the tribe.

Character Biography

Name: Hitōmi Yaarou
Age: 18
Gender: Female
Race: Human

-Hitomi was born to a lower class of Yaarou shinobi who lacked innate talent for Hexcraft but were nonetheless formidable in their respective fields of expertise. Her father, Hatōri Yaarou, despite being “Hexless,” developed such an advanced command of the clan’s ephemeral techniques that his methods became protocols for the Yaarou military. Her mother, Hanāmi Yaarou, was a prestigious master of Hexed Instruments; a discipline she elevated until Orion’s curse claimed her, mutating her into one of the clan's “Fallen” only three years after the birth of her child.

From birth Hitomi exhibited unique genetic markers: white hair and red eyes, traits signifying a natural aptitude for Hexcraft—a rarity among the Yaarou, considering fewer than five percent of children are born with such gifts. Her birth garnered immediate attention from the elders of the clan, who saw within her not only prodigious talent but an unparalleled capacity for Hexcraft.

For three years, Hitomi was carefully monitored within the main family’s compound, during which time her potential was projected to eclipse anything the Yaarou had ever seen from a single member.. as she was the first of their clan to develop an “Endless Art”.

Though the elders saw this as both a boon and an omen, it was enough for them to crown Hitomi the heir apparent of the Yaarou Clan. This meant that she would have to be thoroughly conditioned and trained immediately, for upon her eighteenth birthday, she would subsequently be named the Clan's Head, and overtake the looming responsibilities that came with the crown.

Appearance

Hitomi is a vision of stunning beauty, an ethereal presence that feels almost otherworldly in its intensity. She possesses a slender, elegant frame—one that speaks to years of rigorous training but remains leaned, refined, almost delicate in its proportions.

She stands slightly taller than most of her kin, her posture unwavering, embodying the weight of centuries-old traditions and responsibilities.

Her hair is pure white, falling softly around her face like a frame. Her eyes are sharp, almond shaped and a vivid red, like embers that never fade.

Her skin, like polished ivory touched by sunlight, is smooth and flawless—a testament to both her physical resilience and her enduring beauty.

Her facial features are delicate yet defined, with high, gracefully angled cheekbones and a slight, perfectly shaped nose that adds a sense of elegance to her profile. Her lips are soft with a natural pout, lending a sense of gentleness to her otherwise commanding presence.

Personality

Hitomi is a deeply complex woman shaped by privilege, power, and an unwavering dedication to her heritage. Raised as the heir to the Yaarou Clan, she grew up with an opulent lifestyle, indulged in every wish, and imbued with the confidence of royalty. Even at her young age, she commands the tribe as a ruthless and calculating leader, her age making her fierce reputation all the more impressive. However, her reputation has also instilled an arrogance that borders on disregard for those she considers beneath her.

Her uncanny prowess as a warrior and an assassin, along with her prodigious Hexcraft abilities, have only fueled her sense of invincibility. She holds her power above all else, viewing people largely as assets or obstacles, and often treats those without Hexcraft or who lack strength with condescension. This elitism reflects her deep-seated pride in her lineage and the power of the Yaarou bloodline, which she sees as superior to all others. She harbors particular disdain for outsiders, especially those from the Denkoushi, whom she regards with a mixture of superiority and deep seeded prejudice.

In battle, Hitomi is ferocious and unrelenting, often slipping into a manic state, urged by her determination for victory and undeniable proof that she alone is the strongest. Her fighting style reflects her dominant personality—she moves with controlled aggression, seamlessly unleashing her mastery over Hexcraft to humiliate and overwhelm. During intense confrontations, she is more than willing to sacrifice bystanders if it means achieving victory, her ruthless pragmatism prioritizing the death of her enemies over any moral considerations.

Yet beneath her haughty exterior, there is a softer, more vulnerable side. Hitomi’s devotion to Yaarou traditions and history is genuine, and she harbors a hidden reverence for those she deems worthy of respect. Despite her imposing demeanor, she yearns for familial connections, particularly with her parents. Her mother’s transformation into a “Fallen” and subsequent disappearance haunts her, as does her father’s illness, which she tirelessly seeks to cure. Her efforts to keep him comfortable reflect a rare glimpse of compassion, as she spares no expense from the clan’s resources in her search for answers.

In private, Hitomi allows herself moments of enjoyment that reveal her humanity. She loves music and savoring different foods, as well as sparring, mostly for the thrill of overpowering her opponents. When she is away from the public eye and the pressures of leadership, her demeanor softens, and she becomes more relaxed and even approachable, a stark contrast to her intimidating presence as clan head. This duality makes her a character torn between her ruthless ambition and her concealed need for connection, embodying both the pride of a leader and the vulnerabilities of a young woman searching for purpose beyond mere power.

Anthem
--Endless Art: Senescencia

Hitomi's Endless Art manifests as invisible arm-like constructs with an unsettling humanoid resemblance. Despite being usually invisible to the naked eye, they shimmer like molten glass suspended in air to those with incredibly heightened senses. They are known as W'rayths.

When at rest, they coil and drift near her like predatory specters—slow, sinuous, and aware. But upon triggering the first Gate, they surge to life with lightning speed—so fast, in fact, that they create the illusion of an invisible barrier that reaches out ten from her. Arrows shatter midair, blades rebound and rust, spells fizzle before contact and organic matter ages and decays at an accelerated rate.

No matter the direction or angle, the W’rayths intercept with such velocity and precision that the air around Hitomi appears cursed—untouchable, inviolable.

However, due to the volatility of her powers, the clan elders were prompted to etch seals upon her skin which would dampen the output of her Endless Art as a means to avoid catastrophic occurrences. When necessary, Hitomi can voluntarily unseal one or more of these “Gates,” progressively amplifying the scope and potency of her abilities.

–First Gate – “Veil”
Her natural state. Releasing this Gate increases the range of her W'rayths to at least twenty feet.

–Second Gate – “Rift”
Upon activation, Hitomi's W'rayths coalesce into an invisible exoskeletal construct, draping Hitomi in a practically impenetrable armor. Her influence radius expands dramatically, as the exoskeleton can generate weapons from its body that vary according to Hitomi's intent. She usually generates an incredibly long Katana that elongates at her command.

Ephemeral Arts

The mystical technique that all Yaarou shinobi are trained to utilize in battle. Unlike Hexcraft, even the hexless are capable of practicing these techniques, so long as they have the proper amount of Naten and the appropriate knowledge of the skill. Those who meet the criteria are trained to be agile, cunning, and adaptive, embodying the clan’s traditions and ensuring that even the Hexless can stand as deadly protectors of the clan’s legacy.

These techniques are performed by either using hand seals, or reciting the proper chant. Because of the extensive number of hand seals and different combinations, there are thousands of potential techniques to be discovered.

Hollow Bodies
-Ava Class-
-This technique allows the user to create one or more copies (clones) of themselves. The user's Naten is evenly divided between themselves and their clones: creating one clone will give it half the user's Naten, creating two copies will give each a third of the user's Naten, and so on. They are physical constructs, capable of attacking and defending, but they are incredibly fragile.

Kawamiri
-Ava Class-
-A last resort technique that allows the user to survive an otherwise lethal blow by substituting their bodies with something they've preemptively marked with their Naten. The technique must be performed prior to being attacked, and requires more than half of the users reserves to cast.

Joūto
-Bea Class-
-A movement technique that enables the user to traverse short to long distances with only a single step. To an observer, it appears as if the user has vanished, but it is accomplished by using Naten to move at untraceable speeds. The amount of Naten required depends on the overall distance.

Training and skill are what determines how fast a user of Joūto can move. Users of little skill in the technique would require the use of more steps and Naten to travel the same distance as someone of higher skill.

Shōkotsu
-Bea Class-
-Restorative Technique that allows the user to regenerate from injuries at accelerated rates.

As the clan head, Hitomi has been trained in a multitude of basic and advanced Ephemeral Arts. However, there are a host of forbidden techniques exclusive to the Xhi’on of the tribe that is recorded within The Tome of Moirai.

Below are a list of spells that Hitomi has committed to memory:

Kesshō no Mawaru
-Ava Class-
A forbidden spell that draws entropy from multiple planes of existence, and channeling them into a single spot.

Because this spell draws energy from disparate realms, it cannot be absorbed, nullified, or redirected—it is a force that can only be endured or overpowered through sheer will or overwhelming magical might. Even the caster is vulnerable, as the energies care not for allegiance; they exist simply to consume.

[WIP]

Supreme Art: Hideous Construct
-Dea Class-

When Hitomi releases her ultimate ability, a towering structure befitting the name of technique erupts from the ground. This eldritch totem pulses with ancient energy, inscribed with shifting glyphs that not even Hitomi recognizes. As it rises, six massive arms extend from its four sides, each forming hand signs. crimson glow infecting the very ground.

A mask-like effigy glares outward with hollow, screaming eyes—frozen in a contorted blend of agony and rage. Though unmoving, its presence stares back at those who behold it, casting them into fear, madness, or despair.

Upon activation, invisible titan sized W’rayths surge from the Construct and everything they touch is reduced to dust or decayed, sweeping through battlefields, buildings, and barriers alike.

Appearance

Hitomi is a vision of breathtaking, almost otherworldly beauty–radiating a casual elegance that captivates all who behold her. She possesses a slender, refined build, bearing the marks of rigorous training yet maintaining a gracefulness that seems effortless. Standing just taller than most of her kin, she carries herself with a posture that conveys both strength and the weight of ancient traditions.

Her hair is a stark, pure white, falling just below her chin in soft straight streams that seem to shimmer with a quiet glow, adding a hint of mystery to her already striking appearance. Her eyes are almond-shaped and vivid red like embers—alive with intensity. They give an almost hypnotic depth, a trait unique to those blessed with Hexcraft.

Her skin is unblemished and radiant, reminiscent of polished ivory kissed by sunlight. Her facial features are delicate yet defined, with high, gracefully angled cheekbones and a slight, elegantly shaped nose that lends her an aura of both grace and quiet authority. Her lips are soft with a natural pout, lending a sense of gentleness to her otherwise commanding presence.
