Let's Keep It In The Family

Post by Michio Tribe »

Kham was lucky Michio didn't need sleep. There were too few hours in Vescrutia's days to get anything productive done especially when you placed yourself at the head of two major organizations- one bent on making peace, the other keeping peace. He enjoyed sleep however, a time of stillness to let his mind worry about other things. A time he spent holding his daughter while he told her stories of his youth running with a woman with a head of fire and her dastardly crew of the most powerful warriors in the universe. The Destroyer relished stillness. It was all through his fighting styles where he firmly planted his feet and let Vescrutia to the killing for him but while he sat still. Others ran across the planet putting themselves in dangerous situations- spreading peace, or keeping it.

Was this a commander? A leader? Sitting idle? Doing nothing? Kham sat in his high backed chair in an all white room surrounded by glistening translucent interlocking hexagonal panels that revealed to him a snowy landscape of the Frozen Wastes. This was COER's command base, tucked away from any snooping eyes and far removed from Neovia's curious citizens. Overhead lie that endless black glistening blanket of the sky. The four moons were at every corner of it shining so brightly but not so bright that they drowned out the stars. And beneath it all was a mammoth of a man, brown of skin, white of hair and red of eyes in a high backed chair at the head of a long white table with crystal figurines resembling all sorts of people placed at strategic locations.

"By removing myself, others can grow."

That's what he kept saying to himself. If a tree was consuming all the nutrients in a forest, it had to be removed so others could flourish. He reinforced those who needed it, but wanted to grow the next generation of fighters long after he was gone. He couldn't do that by being on the frontline of every battle at once. In his left hand was a small vial of a curious blue oil. He had seen it before. In many different forms. And it's affects got worse by the year. It's supplier had yet to be ascertained until now. And on the far side of his table was the figurine of a young boy, lean with gray hair- Tobari, COER's latest operative who would not only help Kham stop the disbursement of this substance forever, but squash it's dealers for good.

In a currently unknown location Tobari would be sitting within a tree of a large thick forest. In this area it was currently the dead of night as such the area was completely shrouded in darkness despite a few pockets of moonlight breaking through tree line to the ground. Despite sitting in this tree by no means was Tobari sleeping or just lazing about as he would be intensely looking at the gloves on his hands. As small amounts of moon light poked through the tree Tobari was sitting in thin lines would glistening around him from time to time. These lines would be thin micro-filament wire threads produced from his gloves not only surrounding his general area but almost all of the forest he was sitting in. While these wires where normally sharp enough to slice through steel with little resistance with the right amount of Naten control and slack on the wires they are able to create a perimeter around him used to detect any thing that crossed through/pass them. This was Tobari's best method in gaining inlet of a surrounding area of simply securing his location. In this case Tobari would simply be mapping out the area he was in taking notes of any key land marks of geological significance, so if they where altered in the near future he would be aware of it.

"...."

Still hidden within the trees Tobari would slowly and silently continue to map out the area taking in the information be relaid from the slight pulls on his wires before taking a moment to document the information into a small journal he would present the the large intl group of C.O.R.E upon his return. It had only been a few months since Tobari had joined C.O.R.E but thankfully due to his skills in intl gathering he was allowed the freedom to actually work outside the base rather then simply stuck with a desk job or as a perma-bench-warmer. While many of his mission similar to this one required Tobari to normally be on his own in all honesty he was fine with this as at the moment he has still not really "connected" with any of the other C.O.R.E member normally keeping to himself as much at possible. But then again while preferring this lifestyle right now Tobari knew soon enough he would have to start actually working together with the other members of C.O.R.E as the things they where soon to be going up against where not something one individual could deal with.

From the confines of his office Kham reached out and pressed the Tobari figurine on the head. It began to glow with a soft blue Naten color in it’s center activating the communication device that all COER member’s carried. Like much of COER’s equipment, Cross and her band of engineers created this as well. It looked like a steel pen with a button along its round face. Inside of it was a tiny crystal linked to the Naten frequency of the crystal Tobari’s figurine was using, all of course linked to the COER base that Kham was allowed to use. The communicator pulsed soft humms. A part of graduating the COER academy was remembering their encoded communicated language: 3 vibrations in a row followed by 1 long vibration meant it was a call from Kham from home base, urgent.

Kham sighed and relaxed in his high-backed chair. Cross was truly a genius. To ascertain the many uses of Naten and exploit new uses in his Michio abilities he never thought possible. Truly the strength of COER was in it’s members less its commander.

While continuing to map out the area Tobari would pause once the hums began to emit from his communicator stored within the inner layers of his jacket. Tobari was by no means a technical expert, but even he could respect the skill/genius put into these communication devices. Thinking the call was at first just a general contact from intelligence about his progress in the area Tobari was ready to simply ignore the call, however with the final long vibration Tobari was able to instantly realize that not only was this an urgent call but a call directly from Kham himself. Setting aside his wires and journal, Tobari would quickly pull out the communicator form his jacket and place the receiver into his ear allowing him to speak while still remaining completely hands free. Tobari could barely remember the last time he had directly spoken with Kham since joining the ranks of C.O.R.E, usually simply passing information to him through the different branches of the intelligence division. Speaking into the communicator Tobari's tone while quiet because of currently being in unknown territory was still firm and clear.

"This is Tobari responding what is it you require of me."

"This is Tobari responding what is it you require of me."
His voice rang loud and clear as the naten in his figurine pulsed rhythmically in accordance with his vocal patterns. He sounded so much like a young boy, full of innocence without the harshness of the world Kham had known. It almost made him forget Tobari's life drug-running with his tribe doing whatever dirty business they had him do when necessary.

"You've been stationary for quite sometime. I need a status update."

It had been a few days since Tobari was deployed, the plan was to interrupt one of these drug runs and hopefully find some information about the route of the substance so COER can stay one step ahead of their operation. But knowing The Destroyer was on the scene made his enemies become all too careful as of late. Underground alliances were forged, people were striking preemptively, and lives were in danger on all sides. Tobari's stealthily expertise would be useful in not making a fuss.

"Of course, let me pull up my logs."

After saying this before pulling out his logs Tobari would stand up from his seated position and would clench both his fist creating a small amount of tension on his multiple wires currently spread out the general area. This tension would cause the wires to reverb around the area for just a brief moment before these small vibrations would return to the gloves on Tobari's hands. This was simply Tobari doing one last sweep of his current location making sure nothing was creeping up/spying on him. Seeing the coast clear Tobari would dig into his jacket and pull out a small journal with a intricate lock keeping the journal closed. Instead of using a key of some sort, Tobari would pull out a few of his acupuncture needles and would stab them into certain section of the journal and once the final needles was placed in the book the lock would come undone and Tobari would open the journal. This journal contained all the information Tobari currently had on the drug-traffickers that Tobari had been following for a few days now.

"From what I have currently gather from this area is does appear our initial intel was correct in this area showing moderate activity from the drug trafficking organization. However, they have been taking extreme caution when it comes to moving their shipment of supplies. While, a few individuals have passed back and forth through this area from different entrances and exits of the area from their speed and tracks it is very unlikely any of them where carrying the drugs on their person. If I had to hypothesize their current plans/motives I would say they area currently testing routes in the area to see which would allow them to safely and effectively transport their supplies. I also believe they are also attempting to act as bait luring out any individuals tailing them hoping to engage to eliminate them before they actually begin transporting their shipments."

"So they know we're coming."

He sighed and sat back in his chair. The most valuable took in war was the element of surprise, and this particular enemy happened to know exactly when and where COER would strike. The very thought of someone in his organization, leaking information made Kham clench his eyes shut to rid the thought from his mind. He couldn't fathom the reason! Kham never had a reason to distrust anyone. Yet it was so obvious, someone was leaking their strike pattern.

"When is the next caravan of shipment going out? Decoy or otherwise?"

Tobari could hear the sigh from Kham over his communicator, which was understandable considering the situation at hand. While still be a new recruit of C.O.R.E, Tobari by no means was sloppy or over confident when it came to his stealth and recon based missions. As such the level caution being taken by these drug traffickers defiantly hinted that they where at least somewhat aware of someone tracking their movements. Tobari would shake this from his mind for now tho as he had a mission to complete and worrying about such endeavors would simply distract him.

"If they are keeping in constancy with the current movement patterns then a group should come by the are in the next few hours."

Kham kept silent for a while, no dobut the decoys were meant to spread COER resources very thin and make possible strike teams virtually ineffective. But Kham thought of a way to hit them hard, to get them to reveal their protected assets. It would take an awful lot of his power but it would be worth it. He drew breath and issued Tobari his orders.

"See if you can tail it from the drop off point back to a warehousing facility. When you find it. Mark it, I will strike it from here. Which would undoubtedly cause them to bolster their defenses on the real assets. Stay vigilant on their movements, and follow them back to their home base. Infiltrate it, and get someone to talk."

Tobari would listen attentively as he received his orders from Kham. The fact that Kham was planning to use his own power to assist in the success of this mission further showed not only the importance of this mission but how seriously Kham was taking it.

"Understood..."

Was all Tobari would say in response to his given orders as he end his communication with Kham placing the communicator back into his jacket. Tobari would then look up through the leave of the trees at the moon using it as a indicator of the current time and how much more time he had left before the next rotation of caravan would come through the area. Not having much time to prepare for their arrival with no signs or fancy movements Tobari would simply disappear into the thin air, his presences completely removed from the area for the time being. Tobari would now simply wait for the caravan to arrive so his mission could truly begin and hopefully the beginning of this mission would prove to be the end of the drugs being trafficked into the village.
