Zero exited Duster's Tavern with his new acquaintance, Bo, beelining it at Bo's pace toward the outlying forest. Sunset crept over the sunset crept over the area, punctuating that impending sense of dread that spurred his clock out. Traipsing through the trees, Zero's eyes darted in every direction. His companion was worried about kicking the bucket back in the tavern and he didn't want to be made a liar so soon. Once they were out of the forest, he'd rest easier, so Zero tried to keep the pace brisk, but manageable.

"So, you're just out here looking for trouble, eh? How'd you know to chat me up?" Zero asked candidly. Bo didn't seem like a plant, but Zero felt more comfortable asking outright and being lied to than being surprised later on. The 50-50 split on life or death had a double-crossing element to skew the ratio in his calculations, and nightfall around the tavern was just... Not the safest area sometimes.

Zero seemed pretty anxious to leave, Bo questioned the integrity of the idea of traveling so exposed at night. Was he that confident in his abilities? Or was Bo correct in his assumption that he was familiar with both that tavern, and by the way he moved, this area in general. Just who was this man anyway? As the set off Bo would be able to keep up with Zero with little effort. Whatever he might appear his composition is far from soft. With the energy flowing through him from regaining his naten through that wonderful meal earlier he was in top form. Zero though, he looked like he could go faster than this, much faster. The pace there were at now though allowed Bo to continue to remain alert. His Scarf fluttering in the winds.
"So, you're just out here looking for trouble, eh? How'd you know to chat me up?
"Well" He said slightly hoping over an exposed tree root. The trees were slightly serpentine here, the formation of the neighboring woods , he theorized it made it a bit easy to get lost around here."I was given a tip about this place. Said it was a place of adventuring and guile." Keeping his balance he continued forth. "The way you moved about Dusters, it showed familiarity. For one to be familiar with such a place, it only made sense to assume you were familiar with adventuring as well." 1 +1 equaled 2 after all. Bo's reason for seeking adventure though. That reason was not as simple as just looking for trouble. If anything, he was searching for a solution. Looking for truth."To be frank...I am searching for something..."

"If you say so," Zero chuckled, dashing through the night. Whatever Bo was looking for led him to the slipperiest character in the Northern Realms. Working at Duster's in his youth brought Zero a wealth of knowledge and skill. It oozed from him whenever he stepped foot on the floor and melded himself into the service flow. Just because he wasn't necessarily welcome didn't mean he'd lost his chops. They're what granted him a companion on this little romp so things wouldn't be all bad, unless Fenri caught wind of them.

"I mean, I've told you where we're headed and what's going down," for the most part. The details weren't too important, as long as Bo stayed vigilant and about his wits the same way he linked up with Zero, he'd make it out unscathed. "So what are YOU looking for? I know you didn't come out there just looking for a random adventurer. What's your angle?"

It was great parlor talk, chats to get to the nitty gritty of someone's character, even if it's short term developments. They had a little bit of time before the first ecosystem change so they might as well get to know each other.

Trekking through the night the whispering and cackles of the creatures native to this place every so often caught Bo's gaze. He was not used to this. Traveling but especially at night. Internally he was a bit anxious about all this. It was less about him being hunted, more about him not knowing just what was out here. The variable, the lack of contingences. It was the unpredictability of exploration that both invigorated and terrified him.
"I mean, I've told you where we're headed and what's going down,"
He had, but Bo assumed their was more meat to be placed in that pot. He figured because of Zero's wish to be gone from Dusters in a hurry, there might have been a reason he hadn't spoken more of their task. That or he did not trust a stranger such a Bo as of now. If so, that is to be expected of two enigmas. Bo, he could not afford a luxury such as blind trust. Despite Zero's quick willingness to let Bo on this mission spoke two things. Either he was just that naïve or felt confident he could take Bo out if needed. It could also be neither, and he could genuinely be that nice. Bo had to be sure.
"So what are YOU looking for? I know you didn't come out there just looking for a random adventurer. What's your angle?"
Bo picked up the pace just enough to be almost side to side with Zero. Their gazes would meet for but a moment before Bo's gazes pointed towards to moon. In truth Bo could not reveal to him his reasons for traveling. He might have to carry that torch alone for as long as he remained without a home. A life, that no longer belonged to him. What he did understand through his meeting with the Warg Mesha at the academy was that if he was going to succeed effectively. Than he would have to lean a bit on the kindness of strangers. Zero fit that bill. "My angle?" He smirked underneath his scarf. "Understanding, something that been eluding my grasp for sometime". That was vague. He should at least give a bit more.My people, they were nomadic upon a time and many of their ruins and artifacts litter Vescrutia. I am in search of them. Though." He looked back to Zero after a couple leaps with a coy smile of embarrassment."I don't even know what they look like". He adjusted his scarf.

What about you? I gotta say I didn't expect you to accept my company so swiftly. I could be some kind of vagrant"

"Some of my best friends are vagrants," Zero chuckled, dashing into the night. He traded in his vagrant's card years ago before settling the Neo. With time, he might pick it up again, especially if his trips kept him away from the Conservatory for consecutive extended periods. HE was still new to the whole public figure thing, starkly contrast to the life of piracy he left behind.

"If I didn't take my chances with meeting new friends, I wouldn't have any to speak of, and you seem to shoot straight enough. Or I think you're a pushover, either way!" Zero laughed. It was a gentle rib, Zero often joked carelessly about his nonchalance. He found himself lucky to be in many right places at the right time, far more often than he found himself at the wrong place. Some of the best people he'd ever met were a serendipitous occasion he looked back on with fond admiration and a joyful haze.

"Just so you know, we're gonna have to pass through some rough terrain pretty soon," he said. Zero would have appreciated the same warning before embarking on this trail the first time. Vescrutia is a very large planet, travel too far in any direction and you're bound to get lost. He enjoyed getting lost, it meant a pleasant surprise when you find your way again. Bo wanted to get out and stretch his legs, Zero is the perfect chaperone.

"You ever seen a ghost before?"

"Some of my best friends are vagrants,"
That was 2 parts comforting and 1 part worrisome for Bo. Just who had he hitched himself this time. He thought back to Misha. The Warg that he met during his tenure at the Neovian Conservatory. She was, rude and had little concern of how her sized interacted with the world around her. However, in that se breathe he could acknowledge how she dared to be different. Deciding to be herself and explore her love for knowledge and this world we all live on. Despite social statues, despite her seize, and the criticize that came from her race. She was brazen. He learned much from her.
"If I didn't take my chances with meeting new friends, I wouldn't have any to speak of, and you seem to shoot straight enough. Or I think you're a pushover, either way!"
He wouldn't know much bout it... the notion of meeting friends in such a spontaneous way. He was always contained, always being watched. It often made it quiet difficult for him to ascertain whether anyone interest in him was...genuine. Did they see him? For the ambitious soul that he was? Or did they only see his rank, even more so his shame. The weakest of the three princes. The only one without a birth right. Ignorant that he was not to blame, that the one who now rested upon the throne , was a fraud.

"Heh"

Misha saw him...was she a friend?

Evant saw him...he helped him...was he also one?

"Guess we'll see soon enough"

A slight chuckle was muffled by his scarf. Flailing in the wind, the amber saturation of sunset upon the realm reflected off the myriad of priceless stones that made it fibers. Whatever he was to find out here, he wondered would it to be comprised of such things. Or would it be hard and of mud? Whichever it was to be, eh would treasure it all the same. It would serve as a stone on his oath, to find what was hidden about his family.
"You ever seen a ghost before?"
What about Zero? Would he see him as well? Could...could he become...

"A -a what now?"

Did he just say ghost? Like actual spirts of dead people ghost? While Bo had read much about apparition and such he had never actual encountered a soul of the departed before. Quite frankly he wasn't sure how to feel about it.

"Um that's a big NO. I've heard of them but I wasn't sure they were an actual thing...but I-i assume that what you mean about rough terrain."

A slight gulp of nervousness. Bo really needed to start asking more questions pre-adventure. Next time he could be being greeted by the club of a three headed dragon cyclops! Or not...hopefully.

“No, the terrain itself is pretty treacherous for a stretch. We’re heading into the Sanguine Marsh. It’s kind of haunteeeeed…..” Zero said casually. He twirled a lock of his hair just to be dramatic. At the rate they were going, there was still enough time to make a pit stop and the delivery on time. Some people were immediately turned off by the prospect of ectoplasmic interlopers . Ghosts on Vescrutia came in a number of sizes and flavors. Zero favored the varietals found at sea, those lingering spirits communicated as well as they could while alive. You could bargain with many of them for safe passage through treacherous waters.

Encounters with terrestrial ghosts is a roulette of unfortunate souls. War and famine can leave spirits ravenous and enraged in the afterlife

So this what it was like? To feel anxiety before reaching the destination in question. The known unknown, to know that something meaning is waiting for him. He'd shutter at the mere thought of some horrid tentacled beast slithering its way into his soul corrupting his princely purity.

"Gasp"

A sharp engulfing of air that was slightly muffled by his scarf. What kind of King would he be if he coward like this?

Well, in my defense the 14th King of the Denkou was known for taking extreme measures to ward off evil spirits.

Deflection came as natural to him as breathing. He might not be so easily swayed by others but he definably was a pro at convincing himself. A nervous, throat clearing chuckle would release itself as his left hand adjusted his scarf. His eyes slide over to Zero

"They don't scare me"

Not one bit. Maybe, of course, its not like he'd ever seen a actual ghost. What if there was one that could manifest itself as his greatest fear? No, he needed to chill. There were always two sides to a coin. Just as evil and despair existed so did valorous concepts like bravery and hope.

"Whats kinds have you seen. H-have any of them ever attacked you?"

"I mean, I've run into my fair share, but out on the water, they're usually like trees. They just kinda hang around where they lost their lives. It's kinda sad."

Thinking back to times before the Neo, before Arcturus, about a decade ago now that he traveled the Vescrutian seas with the Leviathan Order. They usually came across others on the water who were very much alive, but found themselves doing deep dives for treasure at sites where pirates found their prey. Sometimes the spirits of those who had been pillaged lingered on the surface in silence, quietly existing beyond the living. Others, they found that regretful souls could be released from their spiritual bonds by assisting the Order in the recovery process. Those proved to be the most interesting interactions, sometimes felled assailants were a foil to the revenants and impeded their progress, an echo of their final ambitions.

"These homies aren't as... agreeable," Zero shrugged. "We're going to have to cross one of the kerjillions of ancient battlefields scattered all over the planet. Use your imagination." Zero kept his pace for a few awkward moments before the flora and fauna bored him. The reminder of the spooks that haunted the Ganjun Wastes got him a bit excited to see them again. The pair made pretty good time and still had plenty before the delivery deadline. Tons of time for more than enough fun to unfold.

Oh, this was just perfect! Not only was he going into some crazy unfamiliar territory to deliver something that he hadn't even seen yet. But it was going to happen via crossing some ancient blood-soaked battlefield where hundreds probably thousands of angry souls just waiting to get their ethereal hand on some warm living flesh. Why, why did he agree to this? He really needed to start asking more fucking questions before hopping on random, stranger danger-filled bandwagons.

"I feel like I should've asked this before we left"

He said anxiously as they continued darting off. The ground beneath them kicking up as he fumbled a bit through a dirt pile having been rambled a bit by all this spooky talk.

"What are we taking back?"

He might've already told Bo and he was just being absent-minded because of his slightly rattled spirit. It's interesting how he never even knew he was this uncomfortable around the concept of ghosts. It always crept him out but the security of being imprisoned in your room is that while you can't get out...much can't get in. Here, out here on the open field, anything could happen. It...it was a bit unnervining. He needed though to be brave. This was what he yearned for. This is what would mold him into a King. It all started here.
