“ Surprise. “ He joked, freed his wife from the ceiling and jumped, landing safely behind a mound of discarded bones and tattered clothing. He, of course, towered over it and was primely visible by all in this cave.

It wouldn’t matter… much.

Enough though for a beast-like man, or a man-like beast, whose stature not only compared to, but rivaled, our hero’s, to stand from his makeshift throne of rocks, skulls, stolen gems, broken swords. “ No one surprises Klarg. ” The beast replied with a dangerous snarl.

The dragon could smell the flesh on his breath and see the blood still dripping from the beast’s cludgel, resting comfortably against the right arm of the throne, there was a much healthier looking wolf chained to the left arm. Much larger too.

“ I do.”

Masur had barely enough time to register the rest of the details of the cavern before a new voice rang out. It was loud, booming through the entirety of the cave system that Masur had entered.

His nose twitched, as he watched Klarg lunge for his cludgel. The beast had sensed something amiss too. Masur could see it in the way the beast moved. It was panicked, frightened. Probably an effect of the voice, thankfully Odea kept his mind calm and unaffected.

He recognized the voice though. It was unmistakable. Masur dreaded hearing it every time he did.

Klarg would not reach his cludgel. No, he was stopped just a half an inch away from grasping its hilt and brandishing it in a futile attempt to protect himself. Masur watched on, not fast enough to stop what he was witnessing.

Klarg would not protect him. Klarg would not taste his first drop of a dragon’s blood. He would not live on in infamy as the bugbear to provide its species was really the top of the food chain.

Klarg would have his arm ripped from him and roar in agonizing pain just that half inch away from his cludgel. Klarg would have his head struck with his severed arm, his jaw fracturing and his sharp teeth, still wet of human blood, flying free of his broken jaw. Klarg would witness all of goblin allies bodies drop beside the fire that kept him, Ripper his wolf and his throne warm.

That would be the last thing Klarg saw, before fingers covered his eyes and hands palmed his skull.

“ I’ve gotten really good. “ The voice would say as the body it belonged to squeezed Klarg’s head like trying to squeeze juice from an orange

This was much easier.

“ At surprises.” The voice finished and then… finished. Klarg’s head exploded between the vice like clutch of a young man that lazily tossed his head to the side, and smiled at Masur. You wouldn’t be at fault if you, after catching a glimpse of this young man of powerful build, long black hair, and sharp blue eyes, mistook him as Masur’s doppelganger.

“Right...”

Masur clenched Odea tighter, any whimsy that remained in his actions had melted away. Odea could feel it in the almost unnoticeable dampness of his palms. She, of course, knew this man as well and the words of her oldest came back to her mind just as Masur moved his lips to speak.

The young man cut him off, and was on him with a sinister palm strike aimed at the Seeker’s chin.

“Dad?!”

The word snapped him awake, quickly enough to dodge right of the palm strike. Smart move, in theory, Jae was as close to full bloodied as any of his other children, so a direct hit from him wouldn’t be a smart thing to take. However, dodging gave up the mental game and Masur knew that from the way Jae scoffed as he missed.

The Seeker couldn’t give his son time to recover. The boy was just as large as him, twice as quick and maybe equalled him in physical strength. Probably even surpassed him there. Masur had to keep him on his toes, on the back foot, so he couldn’t establish an advantage.

Masur dropped Odea and reached for his son, hoping to ensnare him in a half nelson lock before dropping him with a punishing suplex. A move he’d learned courtesy of his middle child.

Odea reconstituted to her human form and positioned herself behind Masur and, more importantly, his son. Instinctively, she formed the ancient seals Masur had taught her and their girls. A form of connection over long distance, a mental ping. It would take time, time she hoped Masur could give her as she locked each one in with purpose and intent.

And a move that would have worked... had this not been his only son. The boy reared up, unfazed by the strength of his father, flexing to break his grip like the old man's arms were simply limp noodles trying to restrain him. He shook his head, raising a tree trunk like arm and throwing his fist towards his father. The impact wasn't really meant to hurt him, the force behind it was what really gave it the juice.

Jae wasn't his father's physical equal... he was better.

'Wasn't expecting that.' Masur had the small time to think, before he crossed his arms against his chest, just in time to receive his son's devastating right. The impact between his son's fist and his forearms sounded like a truck smashing into brick wall or a cannon going off. The reverb enough to shake the cave and cause stalactites to fall and shatter on the ground around them.

Jae fully intended to smash through anything that kept him from his father's head and Masur felt it every time they came to blows. It felt like the boy had grown in strength since their last encounter. Throwing his arms up was the sum totally of what he could manage to defend himself in the face of his son's overwhelming strength. He tried to plant himself, to not give his son ground.

The force though! God the force! The old dragon tried his damnedest to not be swept away with the rush of air that seemed flow around him after the initial impact. Despite his best efforts he could feel himself slipping, losing the ground he was trying to take!

"Fuck!" This thought was aloud, as he took flight, unable to withstand the force of this solitary blow, but he did not give up hope or lose his spirit. In fact, the old dragon smiled a little. If he wasn't fighting for his life right now, he'd be proud! No seriously, he'd totally be proud.

His back made contact with the cavern's wall first, before it gave way and he was falling back to the lower level he and his wife had come from just moments before. He refocused, "Good! Now do it again!" taunted and seized himself with the light of a heritage he'd yet to pass on to this son of his. If he ever would remained to be seen. (Rhem Used)

He landed gracefully from a well executed back flip, avoiding the sleeping wolves and shaking his arms free of the stun left over. He glanced over his shoulder, "Only a couple steps from the entrance." In the time that he had, basically none, Masur used a couple of intricate hand and arm motions, and waited for his son to answer his taunt in kind.

He retracted his arm slowly, returning to a more neutral stance. He smirked, but only a little. This wasn't anything to be happy over. He was destined to be stronger than the old man. It was written by the most prophetic prophets. Foreseen by the most blessed oracles. Preordained by all the holiest priest. Scribed in the stars by the grandest seers.

And, most importantly, whispered to him, by the gentle voice of the only woman he cared about, as a babe.

He wanted to have killed him in one punch. That would be have been a joyous occasion. A day for celebration. Jae still had work to do.

He simply glanced at the... thing his father decided to waste his potential with, his expression indifferent. For all the... contempt, let's say contempt, he had for his father, Jae could careless about the woman his mother had been scorned for. He certainly could hold all the same contempt, but then it would split his focus. It was a waste of effort. She was nothing, and once he killed his father he was sure his mother would know exactly what to do with her.

He moved his mouth to say something, cutting and witty, but then his ears twitched. Quickly his indifferent expression began morph until his face seethed with rage.

The Nerve!

The Gall!

The Audacity!

To smile! To taunt him! The old man wasn't taking him seriously... again! He'd thought the old man would have learned by now. Every time Jaehaerys, the tyrant, caught up to him the old man ran like the coward he is. So to STILL not consider Jae a threat was simple folly. Jae would teach him this, his mother blessed him with the strength to do so.

He trembled with rage, and diverted his attention immediately from the wife to the husband. "Do it again?! Do it again?!" His voice trembled almost as much as his fists. He stomped towards the hole in the wall he'd created, before dashing through it and lunging at his grounded father from on high.

During his descent the drakeling's sapphire blues grew red, while the whites took on a sinister blackness, glazing over with the curse of bloodlust his mother had bestowed upon him. It increased his power substantial, making him the unstoppable avatar of his mother's wrath. His jaw fell open, and just as quickly a condensed laser of lightning power charged and fired at his father. A laser that grew in intensity and size the closer he got to his father.

This… was good. Odea never stopped her evocation, watching her husband successfully capture the attention of his son and lead him away. She never doubted that he would, but she was weary of how he would fare against Jae this clash. Staring, briefly, as the boy marched away, she couldn’t tell if the boy had gotten… bigger, or if her eyes were playing tricks on her.

Still, with Masur preoccupying his son, Odea was able to really put her back into it. Her archaic hand motions transformed into a much more expressive dance, and evocation shifted to divination.

The intent behind her motions changed with the severity of the situation Masur was currently faced with. This would be much more than a mental ping. Yes, the growing circle at her feet, pulsing with the intertwined naten power of herself and her husband, would make sure of that.

-----

Masur secretly loved this. What dragon wouldn’t? Especially the father of a hatchling like Jae.

He smiled more, and met Jae’s lightning of destruction with a pretty nonchalantly, appearing, block. Simply, our Seeker rose his hand, alight with the silvery blue color of his heritage. (Rhum used)

He was big, menacing and powerful. Fit for survival in a world that demanded the fittest. The curse of bloodlust was a burden that he did not need, but Masur understood why it was a burden his son brandished proudly. It was a connection to the only parent he loved, and the only parent he felt loved him.

Patiently, Masur waited, focusing to not absorb Jae’s lightning, but redirect it. It was a small bit of sleight of hand involved, where Masur slowly raised his other hand, with index and middle finger extended. He breathed, regulating the flow of energy between the tip of his fingers, himself, his palm and Jae’s lightning.

Still, there was something Jae lacked. Masur could see it. That woman had made sure to make their son the most nightmarish ghoul Masur had ever faced, but she didn’t give him everything he needed.

Trading blows with him, though it be a life and death situation, actually kept the Seeker sharp and ahead of the curve. It helped him with strategizing, since Jae wasn’t someone he could steamroll. In turn, Masur tried to instill in the boy what he lacked.

Swiftly! Masur dropped his hand and ducked to the left, away from the entrance to the cavern. As he moved, he winked at his boy, “Gotcha.,” pointed with the extended index and middle finger of his free hand, and let off a similar beam of lightning power.

He wasn’t aiming at Jae, not immediately, but at the wall behind the boy. Masur had mapped out the entirety of the cavern before entering, and he could smell the water over the stench of death and unwashed goblins. He’d charged enough of Jae’s energy to blast not only a hole through the wall, but to dig a trench in the ground so deep that it would funnel all the water here!

The Tyrant was in full rampage, his father would bow. This time, the boy swore by it.

With the curse, his mind was clouded. An impenetrable darkness enveloping his mind, amplifying his darker impulses and feeding his anger, frustration and hatred right to his naten. The pure potency of his life force exceeded the old man's back when he was this age.

He ignored his father's banal taunts, and any thought that wasn't about the immediate destruction of his father and everything around him. It was a focusing agent, to be sure, but it wasn't without it's draw backs. His conscious mind for unbridled power, a small cost to pay to fulfill his only real desire in this world.

That darkness, it began to radiate outward from his body was well. Waves of inky blackness that didn't necessarily resemble energy of any kind, but didn't seem tangible either. It engulfed him, like an aura or barrier. Unconsciously, of course. the Tyrant never noticed his mother's extra abjurations.

The beam focused on his father for as long as he could manage, hoping it would bring Masur to heel so Jae could wring his neck. Just as quickly as his father had, Jae jerked his head out of the way of the returning beam of lightning. His jaw snapped shut, cutting his beam off at the source, as he sucked his teeth and glared.

He wasted no time to bum rush his father with his massive shoulder and bull rush him towards another wall. All the while, the inky blackness grew thicker the closer Jae got to Masur. When they made contact, it reached out and clawed at anything it could grab on the old drake. Only to... recoil shortly after, as if it had been searching for something that wasn't currently on Masur's person.

Dropping his hands, Masur pivoted closer to the exit of the cavern, pushing off his back foot and leaping towards the entrance. Masur hadn't seen Jae's curse effect him quite like this before. The boy wasn't a Shakespeare, but he normally talked a tiny bit more. Looking him over, for as briefly as he could without dropping his guard, it seemed like the curse was reaching a new level of hold on Jae.

He noticed the black tendrils...

That was all he had the time to notice, "OOFH!" Masur grunted, catching Jae's shoulder full on because of his lapse in focus. They collide while Masur was still in the air and he went reeling.

Taken like being hit by a train, Masur was driven through the exit of the cavern, across the small stream, and deep into the cavern wall behind them. Masur braced himself as best he could, drawing on his life's work of martial mastery to siphon strength from the juggernaut of a dragon. Only, as he's silvery blue naten spread from him and washed over Jae, it was met with resistance. (Rhum Used)

Masur could feel his draining was at maximum absorption, but the amount of energy he was pulling off Jae was significantly less than it should be. This was another first, and it was definitely something Masur noted. He could work with what he got.

He dug in, muscling up to Jae and feeding his naten into himself to enhance his strength to a level similar to Jae's current fury. Then, his power surged around him in a dazzling display of silvery blue majesty, sparks of bluish pseudo lightning and glittery silvery dust swirled as his raven locks were dyed stark silver and his eyes became luminescent.

His strength rose further.

------

Odea braced herself with every shudder and crash of the destruction around her, but it only gave her brief pause before she continued her endeavor. She glance over her shoulder to the hole Masur had made in the wall that had taken Jae from the room, and she was beginning to second guess if it had been a good idea to leave Masur alone. She could not see him, and could barely hear his blows versus those of his son, but she could feel his desperation growing.

She had been right in her assessment. Jae was bigger. He was growing more powerful, and it seemed like perhaps his curse was the cause. She couldn't be sure without witnessing it herself. She bit her lip...

She stomped the ground, reached for the heavens and tossed herself to and fro. With passion she swung her arms wide open and whispered to the winds, "Summon!" She bet on her husband knowing what he was doing.
