Khana looked away from her father morosely, trembling. "Argh! Fine." She was gone just as quickly as she spoke. He always took Kara's side, it seemed to her. She grumbled mildly distasteful banter as she traveled on. If he wanted her to work, then she'd work like no one has ever seen. Kara would never get a request again! At that, Masur-Khana snickered and traveled faster.

Kara breathed a sigh of relief. Finally! She was happy to hear that the old man was starting to take this seriously. She could admit that what Masur-Khana did hold merit. Together they were a much more dangerous force to be reckon with. But!

A big but!

Kara had been privy to a lot of draconic discrimination in some of the more populated areas that she worked in. No one had ever said anything to her, she hid her heritage will, but she heard talks of some nefarious clan of dragons wrecking havoc across the Grand Mother's surface. If the family traveled together, it would take a lot of power to hide their collective amount of naten. Her father and mother could do it, but at a great cost to themselves.

Exposure. Something she knew her father did not want. "That won't be a problem," The oldest proclaimed proudly before looking down at her little co-pilot in her arms, "right Korra?" Korra nodded in agreement, giving her sister the affirmative thumbs up.

Happily, Odea embraced them both, "Good my girls, good." She would have hugged Khana too, but it was better if Khana was left to stew. She always came back a better version of herself after a talking too from her father. It was wrong for Masur to weaponize his daughter's devotion to him, but it was the only way he could get her to achieve what he knew she was destined to. Odea felt comfortable admitting that, should push come to shove, Masur-Khana was the only one she had confidence in overcoming Jae, if Masur himself should fall.

It would take Kara, though, to direct that power. The girls needed to get better at working together. Really working together, not commanding each other and expecting the other to oblige.

Masur smiled happily as well. This was what he wanted to see. Khana would seek success, and Kara mind was eased with his renewed attention on Jae.

Kara adjusted Korra in her arms,“We’re gonna go then” she said.

Before she left, Masur placed his hand on her shoulder, “Be safe. Thank you, I am glad you came. Your level head is what I count on.” And it was true, he could forget himself and become a slave to adventure. Kara and Odea kept him focused, though Odea liked to indulge him.

Kara nodded, her face didn’t show happiness, her shoulder relaxed though. “Don’t forget to call us. Strong apart.”

“Stronger Together.” Masur replied before he watched his eldest leave with his youngest. Odea stepped forward, and he turned his attention to her.

She didn’t say anything for a while, Masur taking the silence to wish for his grandparents to look over the young. By the time he was done, “That boy, his power grows.”

It wasn’t a tough pill to swallow. Masur had noticed that too, every time they clashed. At first he thought it was just Jae naturally acclimating to his unnatural growth. However, that blackness that Jae was generating now made him think differently.

“She couldn’t have made the curse stronger?” He asked, showing a break in his solid demeanor for the first time. Odea placed a calming hand on his arm and began to lead him out of this decimated cavern.

Thankfully they hadn’t done more damage. Jae had taken care of the goblin infestation and Bugbear, so the road humans were using for travel and trade should be safer. They didn’t find anything more out about the men, but they could always resume the search later.

Odea should her head, “I don’t believe so. I am no fan of Eshira, but no matter how much she hates you,” she paused, looking to her husband, “She loves that boy.”

Masur knew it to be truth as well, So what could it have been?” He always assumed Eshira called Jae back to her side when he wasn’t battling The Seeker on her behalf. Maybe she had him running other errands?

The two remained silent until they got outside. He had meant the question to be rhetorical, but his wife’s face showed that he weighted heavily on her as much as himself. He scooped her up onto his shoulder, as he did quite a bit in their youth.

She steadied herself, surprised, “You’re right.” Masur didn’t need to say what he was thinking. They would just have to find out. Even if it meant storming Eshira’s home and asking her.
