Chapter One: Help Wanted

Post by Zeik »

Zeik rested on the courtyards fountain. A statue of a strong woman with a shield at her side and a staff aimed to the sky dripped water into the fountain.

The drip of the pouring water was accompanied by the chirp of many of the forest native wildlife. A cornucopia of animal cries and dripping water soothe his senses as he waited the arrival of the the potential Aces.

He’d sent word through the tavern and with the local media outlets, passerby and locals alike knew Zeik was hosting open tryouts for Ars Haven Ace Positions. The flyers were vague to say the least, only giving directions to the Academy, a shoddy-hand drawn picture of the Stone Palace and the line ‘Help Wanted.’

He noticed a stain on his robes sleeve and tried to scratch it out.

‘What....I only had water.’

He said. His tone sinking with each word.

‘I hope I don’t smell like booze.’

He said, reflecting on his time spent at the Lonely Stone.

"With the directions on this map I think smell is a secondary concern right now."

Alaude's voice wold echo along the wind reaching Zeik's ears as he entered the area. Taking his usual cigarette out his mouth Alaude would release a small cloud of pitch black smoke into the air before placing his cigarette back in his mouth to rest. Having already checked out the academy a little while back once noticing the fliers it was not hard for Alaude to simply back track. Stoping a few feet away from Zeik, Alaude would give a friendly wave.

"So do I get a gold star for arriving first?"

-Alaude was always the first to arrive and the last to leave, a veteran knight of the flourishing Astral kingdom.

Zeik welcomed his approaching friend with a warm smile and an enthusiastic wave of his arm.-

‘Gold star indeed!’

He said with a light chuckle. Resting his waving arm on his lap. The fume of Alaude’s cigarette was intoxicating, reminding him of the freshly rolled wrap he had in his robe.

‘Have you seen Grave or that slacker Ishidate?’

He questioned. Reaching into his robe and pulling out his wrap. Stuffed with fresh, home grown herbs from his garden, he placed the rolled brown leaf into his mouth. Afterwards he started patting his robes and pants pockets, twisted his neck in search of something. He rested the wrap in his mouth, careful not to soak the brown leaf in his saliva.

‘Where is it?’

He muttered, moving the wrap around his lips to speak.

A small spark would flare at the end of Zeik's wrap as Slade finally approached. His tread was as simple yet almost completely silent

'How have ya been gentlemen?'

His tone was as carefree as always. Yet his presence was different somehow. His brown eyes would scope the area as he approached his brothers in arms.

'So, "Help Wanted?". What type of help is needed?'

Slade couldn't help but snicker at the simplicity of the summons. Yet it was Zeik's style.

Teralok raised his eyes in time to see the gathered pairs of feet he was approaching. He looked around surveying, not knowing where he was.

It took a moment for him to recall the subliminal details of what he had been listening too. Looking at everyone gathering he remembered hearing about Zeik hosting a meeting. Raising a hand out of his loose pockets and pursing his lips with a smile he acknowledged them quickly before putting it back.

Walking the perimeter of them he made his way to other edge of the fountain and found himself peering inside. He watched the water as they talked, touching the stone fountain tentatively, trying again to find the sounds below their conversation.

He feigned surprise, jumping at the flicker of fire now lighting his wrap. He pulled the air through the wrap, lighting a red-hot cherry at the tip. The flames lit the fresh herbs inside as Zeik took a satisfying pull of his blunt. He knodded to his companion, slade and blew the smoke from his wrap into the air.

‘I knew you’d show, slade. You’re never too far behind Alaude.’

He said with a light chuckle, reflecting on thoughts of the Astral City's humble beginnings. He noticed young Teralok approaching from the distance and gestured with his free arm.

‘Were meeting by the fountain, over here.’

He said gingerly. Putting his wrap out by scraping the red-hot cherry against the fountain. He waited till teralok was a little closer before speaking.

‘I’m sure more will arrive so I won’t go over all the details. As some of you may know, Astral City was built with one primary purpose....to find the enemy of Vescrutia, The Horsemen. Worlds far and wide, across all manner of existence are haunted by their presence. Attacking from the void and seducing creation to ruin, preventing sentient life from connecting across the void.

You’re probably aware the Sanctus Imperium guided The Astral Trinity along the horsemen’s path of ruin, starting with their desecration of the seven sister, pleiades. Sanctus awakens within us a dormant and forgotten power, Animus.’

-He said calmly. Taking breaks to catch his breath. He swiveled his neck often, meeting each member of the auidence eye to eye.-

‘In short, I’ve got a plan to win the battle once and for all.’

"Animus..?"

Alaude would mumble the word under his breath while continuing to listen to Zeik speak. After Zeik had finished speaking for the moment Alaude would then hold out his hand causing a flurry of darkness to swirl above it. The darkness would fade and a medium sized skull totem like object with its lower jaw attached to a sharp arched claw and on where should be its cheeks two 3-piece claws would suddenly appear floating over his hand. Alaude had just recently obtained this item upon finding his resolve to improve and protect the Chaos with all his might. However, originally Alaude thought this was simply an evolved form of his Dark Force giving physical form. Upon listen to Zeik explain the situation tho Alaude was quickly able to come to the understanding that his item was his Animus a gift from The Sanctus Imperium.

"So this is the power they hope for us to use to deal with the horsemen?"

Listening intently Teralok heard everything, if only by ear. He was barely paying attention to the surface noise searching instead the cold sound of depths for any respondent minerals... Teralok hadn't had anything good to eat in a long time.

His eyes, glazed slightly in Zeiks direction, blinked back their vibrance as the Animus was summoned, attracting his attention. Only a second was wasted recalling the rest of the information received. Astral City, the Horsemen, the plan to defeat them. Their influence was felt heavily by any who could read such signs, Teralok, being born to such signs, had inclinations to find it's origin.

The grey pole poked through the ground beside him before sprouting upward like a beanstalk to it's full 7 foot height. Teralok glanced at it as he stood up straight, and then crossing his arms he lent his attention undivided.

He noticed Alaude’s animus out the corner of his eye. He hadn’t personally seen to the awakening of any of his Astral Citizens, so it was a pleasant surprise to know some had started their awakening. He expressed his satisfaction with a slight smirk and followed it by saying

‘Precisely. The Animus is forged from a fragment of your Astral core, your soul. A weapon of unexplored feats and indescribable potential, the Animus. Young Teralok has also awakened his Animus, correct?’

He said. Looking over to Teralok with a knod of respect as he rested beside his accomplishments.

‘Which brings me to our first objective, awakening our Astral inheritance. Their are three known skills connected to your...inherentence. The Animus,a timeless weapon. The familar, your core personafied. And...your soul beat, the release of stored core Prana.

Ars Haven is dedicated to the study of these three skills and the protection of Astral city.

After confirming that this small totem was in fact an Animus with a quick wave of his hand Alaude would disperse is Animus causing it to simple fade away in a cloud of black smoke. Alaude would then silently listen as Zeik continued to explained the other aspects of Astral Inheritance consisting of Animus, Familiar, and Soul Beat as well at the main purpose of Ars Heaven which is to help people awaken and cultivate those skill to be able to face the horsemen. After Zeik finished speaking Alaude would take a moment to take another puff from his cigarette and release a black cloud of smoke before speaking.

"Well you know you always have my support in any matter. So where do we go from awakening these inheritance?"
