"Let's move!" Zero screamed happily. Dodging every trap laid out before them got boring about halfway through. The bulk of them rendered themselves moot against the pressurized barriers surrounding the pair. The gadgets were oddly simple in comparison to deterrents Zero met in his former line of work. He shrugged off most of his concerns and trusted Bo had a good sense for this kind of thing. In a 50/50 split Zero couldn't have had any better logic than
Right is right, right?

He slid raised a tuft of wind beneath his feet and slid over to the right corridor with a sly whistle.

As he approached the opening, a red fog began spilling from it's depths. His good took him a few feet into the tunnel before he stopped moving, padded in place by this cloud that quickly grew to cover the entire opening.

"The fu-" is all he could say before the crimson gas belched and flung him viciously across the room into the wall behind him. Zero landed his feet on the wall with an air muffled thud, staring curiously back into the red deterrent. It roiled in the corridor, a storm of mysterious fog bubbling out like seething rage over the sides of a very angry pot of rice. The room illuminated itself with hazy symbols lining its perimeter. There were 12 in all, one placed over the tunnel they entered through and another over their chosen exit.

"FOOLISH FUCKING MORTALS! YOU DARE VENTURE INTO THE CITY OF THE LEGEND?!?!"

A voice exploded from the walls as the gas swirled about as wraiths climbed from the haze covering the floor. Zero stuck to the side of the wall just to keep a more bird’s eye view of the situation worsening by the second. In the darkness their bodies were barely visible but the weapons they brandished, blades of all sorts and sizes, were illuminated with what Zero could only guess was rage and regret. Each symbol produced a ghastly warrior in front of it, each stoic and terrifying in their own right.

“Foolish fucking ghost! You dare…? To… You dare?” he spat at whichever form he thought owned the condescending voice from before. Zero dismounted from his wall and floated next to Bo again. “You hear this guy? Like we’re the fools and they’re the guys who are dead? Hah!”

Zero rolled his neck, cracked his knuckles and sparks of electricity began to dance from his feet.

”I WILL ADD YOU TO MY ACCURSED COLLECTION!”

The attack began with a pair approaching in a gust of smoke billowing behind them, two crimson, curved blades bearing down on the duo with murderous intent. Zero caught the sound of air moving and tapped Bo, “Move!”

Effortlessly, the Emerald haired pauper navigated the terrain abroad. As they dodged the nasty supply of traps and death centered creations Zero abruptly came to a halt just before the corridor of set to the right of the once forked path. In truth Bo hadn't placed much intentionality in his choice, when faced with a decision like this in a realm of totally hidden agenda sometimes the wisest thing was just to say fuck it and give it a go. Was that not the essence of being an adventurer? Sometimes the most well calculated scenario could still have variables to sway the tide. As much as he had hypotheses about the world, it wasn't until he took a chance and set out into it, that he began to understand the sporadic nature of life and just how whimsical danger could be.

Bo wasn't to far behind Zero, possibly a few feet or so. As he neared the entrance his Magic Sense began to pick up on something, though faint it carried enough malefic magical energy to make the hairs on his arms and neck stand up. The dark spooky tunnel gave him haunted T's and considering his wariness of the supernatural, i.e. the dead, He felt it prudent to give his buddy a heads up before they went further but just as Bo reached out to tap him on the shoulders
A furious maelstrom of crimson breath swamped the area. The force of it's coming carried enough power to blow the beryl adventurer and his companion clear across the room. Bo had some pretty sick reaction time and was able to use the force of the blow and his nimble ninja like movements to turn his body so that his feet collided with a neighboring pillar denting it slightly but not hard enough to break it. Naten mended within his feet gave him the ability to cling to it's surface. Bo's eyes rapidly scanned the room for the origin of the fog. With it's cardinal coming the essence gave way to a series of runic markings who appeared and felt magical in nature. Bo, in the brief time it took them to manifest throughout the room was able to mentally note the placing of the symbols. His knowledge of the arcane warranted him to always pay attention to markings, glyphs, symbols etc. Considering what happened next, it was a good thing he did.

The voice boomed, shaking the foundation of the pillar he was on. It's origin could not been pinpointed but after it's bellow from the symbols manifested a series of ghastly warriors accompanied by an array of blades. Just off theory it was a good chance that these being were born from the magic(?) of the runes that littered the place. To Dazuma, the beings were clear as day. Despite the nasty fog obscuring their bodies , Bo could energetically experience their numbers. They were certainly out numbered.
“Foolish fucking ghost! You dare…? To… You dare?” he spat at whichever form he thought owned the condescending voice from before. Zero dismounted from his wall and floated next to Bo again. “You hear this guy? Like we’re the fools and they’re the guys who are dead? Hah!”

Zero rolled his neck, cracked his knuckles and sparks of electricity began to dance from his feet
"Boy, You suuuure told em."

Bo said with a condescending snicker. For all Zero's experience it seemed his partner wasn't all that skillful in the art of smack talk. He had never encountered ghost and the horrible intent radiating from them was almost suffocating. For As lightning began to dance under Zero's feet Bo would find himself to be a bit shocked. Frankly, where he was from it was rare to see a weaver of wind naten. In fact, he had only seen his brother wield it so freely. However to also be a wielder of Lightning as well? That most certainly caught his eye. Just who was this man...

Dazuma, you cannot fall here, you must see this through!

Zero exclamation prompted an immediate response from Bo. As the crimson blades sought to reach their target he leapt from the pillar to the neighboring one leaving a slight green-blue trail of light as he narrowly avoided the blades. Fluidly, during the leap, he would begin a brief series of hands signs inspiring his body to crackle with green spats of electricity. From then on he released a volley of dark green colored kunai toward the back of which ever one of the warriors had targeted him in their initial assault. A faint green light could be seen trailing behind the kunai. There were three of them all together.

"Hear that Zero? It wants us to join it's collection...by the looks of these guys...I'm thinking it's a strong pass."

He said observing the fog. Obviously it was meant to obscure their sight. That wasn't the main issue for Bo though, trying to surmise whether it was toxic for the living, was.

"Getting any weird tingling feeling from the fog?"

After all he caught the brunt of the scarlet blech that caused it. Bo continued to ponder over the nature of the markings though...trying to make sure if what he thought was a fact was indeed one.

Blades bore down on the pair from every direction, the ghastly ghouls gnashing at them with their ghostly gear. By the time Bo was on the wall, another pair of phantasms lunged at his glowing aura. Zero set his sights on the aggressing phantoms, sidestepping their blade and flicking his legs across the face of one of them, slipping to its backside. Another came from behind and with a wide sweeping fan of blades. He leapt over and shot a blazing quick roundhouse to their armored head. Strangely, he felt no resistance and caught himself with a tuft of wind beneath his feet. Smaller than the cyclone from their journey to the pit labyrinth, its vortex cleared space from the gas around him and gave him a bit more visibility to duck and dodge, bob and weave through the steps in this dangerous dance. The room was still shrouded in the red mist, but it didn’t seem to impair anything but his eyesight. The active air around him kept the gas from entering his lungs as they danced, the sweltering air making a hot dust of the debris kicked up in their squabble.

“I’m reeling in the dog?” he screamed over the eerie rumbling and battle cries filling the chamber. The entire scene was drowned in the haggard screams of fallen warriors given second life. Maybe third? Bo and Zero we're far from the first to make their way into this chamber, the bones and battlements adorning the supposedly secure security system attested to it's popularity.

He presumed Bo said something about the fog hiding much of the bodies of the frenzied phantoms assailing them. All he smelled was dirt and ash, with a distinct undertone of regret. A hint of spite seethed from their ethereal weaponry. As Zero moved, he took note their opponents were untouchable, and didn’t want to take a chance with testing if their blades were the same way. From the way the onslaught continued, their blades looked like they’d cut more than flesh.

Another pair lunged toward Bo on the wall, blades waving over and under their shoulders in a deadly figure-8. They were followed by a third brandishing two axes coming to pick up the pieces should his comrades miss their mark.

The moment he touched the wall another menagerie of blades sought to bring him down. Though his vision was obscured the precision of his magic sense was uncanny. He could sense what he was sure was magical energy flowing through these specters. What manner of arcane force was tieing them to this plane? Zero seemingly took care of the two that came for Bo. He noted how not only did his kunai go straight through the backsides of the two that accosted him earlier, but Zero's kick went unabated by the body of the spectral warrior. That let Bo know what must be done. If they could not be harmed by physics then magic was their next best option. Luckily for Zero, Dazuma was a walking battery of such energy. Right after Zero's aid Dazuma withdrew the kunai by tugging at the almost invisible denkie wire attached to them, tossed the three into 3 of the twelve runes that littered the area. His body would crackle with sporadic spurts of electric naten before its grace enhanced his legs almost seeming to flicker away from the pillar. Quickly he would sign a small flurry of hand signs as the electrical energy began to palpitate and amass around him. Making sure to evade oncoming attacks with his nimble athletics. Bo had spent his whole life mastering his mortal vessel so being able to cast magic and move was like breathing to him. Several beryl-colored glyphs began to manifest around him as he pursed his lips to speak his incantation.

"I wield this power with the intention to cleanse this realm of malice."

With those spoken words his magical might seemed to double. The very air around him began vibrating causes fluxes to periodically disperse the thick red miasma. His body became incredibly radiant, almost blinding even no doubt turning himself into a beacon for the others. However, Bo had something in mind that just might spare them the hassle of trying to cut down these guys all at once. More than likely, so long as those runes stayed these creatures possibly had the ability to rise time and time again. The bond...must be severed. The energy coalesce into a beach ball-sized orb of magic that he shot into the air. His scarf, as if it contained a life of its on took several kunai out of his pouch and flung them into the ball of light where there would be doused in its power.

"1st Tier Configuration; Light; Tears of Lucio!

From Dazuma's scarf, a furious expulsion of light and radiant magic burst forth(Like a flashbang but no sound ) Zero was covered from the adverse effects thanks to the cloak Dazuma gifted him earlier. However, after the use of this spell the cloak's magic would dissipate. The orb of light would burst open releasing a flurry of sharp magical kunai-shaped beams of light rained down upon the warriors from above. The piercing power hopefully would be enough to keep a chunk of them busy long enough for Bo to confirm his hunch. The actual physical kunai he tossed went into the other 9 runes. Between his magic sense and impeccable memory, it was a sitch to remember where they were placed.

Zero! The runes! The light from the Kunai should be able to dispel/destroy them. I'm sure I don't have to tell you about metal and lightning?

He would say using telepathy. A common trait amongst the Denkou mages. With the ruckus, the skirmish was creating he might not hear him otherwise.
“YOU THINK JUST TWO OF YOU CAN STEP FOOT IN THE REALM OF LEGEND?!”
We are not alone...

Dazuma would bellow back at the voice. For him, with the weight of a kingdom 20 millennia in the making. The dreams, hopes, and wills of thousands. The suffering, the pain his people were enduring under his brother's thumb. He would shoulder it all. He would never forget. Those very emotions fueled his magic and fanned the flames of his determination to see this through to the end.

WE WILL RESIST YOU WITH NOT JUST OUR WILLS. BUT WITH THOSE OF ALL THOSE WE CARE AND SUFFER FOR! THAT IS WHAT IS IT MEANS TO BE A KING!

With this proclamation, Bo's naten began to rise. The air continued to vibrate around him. His magical nature was tied to his conviction. The stronger he felt about something. The stronger his magic would become. He had to be careful though. If he leaked too much he won't be able to control it. He had to remain contained.

“YOU CONCEITED, WRETCHED, HUMAN!”

The irritated scream shook stony debris from the ceiling. It passed easily through the ghastly sigil topping their scuffle. The chamber alight with flying kunai forced Zero to zip to a wall, slipping through distracted apparitions batting away the light knives. Zero looked on at the assault, satisfied with the breather he got. His experience with ghosts and other trapped souls haunted him sometimes. Most would be worried about being cursed like these sad, unfortunate souls, locked into a loop between life and death, unable to find rest. Zero also didn’t like the way it felt having a foreign spirit move through his body. It often made him gag. At least Bo’s creativity kept the situation lively. His kunai proved to be particularly useful at this impasse. Alone, Zero probably would have tried to overdo the situation and go all out from the beginning to finish this party off. Bo tagging along made the trip so far a bit less of a chore, his enchanted kunai took a lot off the sting out of this troupe of failure’s final curse.

“Don’t be full of yourself! We’re just passing through to drop something off to my friend! I promise we won’t be long!”
Zero! The runes! The light from the Kunai should be able to dispel/destroy them. I'm sure I don't have to tell you about metal and lightning?
Oh? You’re psychic? Yikes. Anyway, I was thinking the same thing.

Zero turned to the three runes without Bo’s kunai in them and fashioned a trio of his own mystic weapons. One of the phantoms broke away from Bo’s special orb attack and lunged at Zero with a furious battlecry and blades seething ghastly fury. His first instinct almost brought him to cross swords mano a mano with this one, just to catch some unsuspecting spirit lacking. His better judgment held fast, slipping out of the spirit’s range along the cavern wall. The runes lining the wall made a deafening clang when struck by the spectral ax and Zero laughed while dodging the fan of blades waving at him. His light footwork danced him just far enough from the assailant’s weapon to keep him enticed, always just out of reach. He danced around the perimeter until he reached Bo’s first kunai, reveling in the repeated recoils of the phantom blades off the runic walls. He couldn’t get a clean opening to supercharge the kunai while engaged with his occult opponent and the number of raining kunai seemed to dwindle as the moments moved on. How could he get the opening he needed?

As his parade of light saturated the area, he was sure to bop and weave as needed. Those of the pack who had not been skewed still now aimed to average their brethren. A chill ran through Bo's spine. Sudden flashes of human faces bore through his mind. As he blinked back to reality he noticed a pair of blades swiftly making their way for his torso. He flipped backward narrowly avoiding the blades leaving the cloth of his shit to be sliced just narrowly grazing his skin.

" I am a Mage so, Psychic adjacent I suppose."

During the flip his eyes briefly caught Zero zipping through the expanse. Sights set on the final glyph. He was pinned down by an accosting specter. The number of raining light kunai had dwindled quite a bit. However, there were just a few enough for Bo to hopefully create the opening his companion needed. As the brazen boot of one of the ghosts sought to bring its heel down on Bo's head his scarf would expand hardening instantly to meet the force. The scarf enchanted with a series of runes that gifted it magical properties was more than capable of shielding him from the metaphysical. In the very moment o impact, Bo's index and middle fingers came together and procured a soft green beryl light. With a furious swipe, he redirected the remaining kunai for the creature chasing Zero. The force of the blow sent Dazuma clamoring towards the ground. With a slight spin and burst of ambiguous magic energy, he prevents himself from crashing face-first into the ground. The collision caused a tremor that mildly shook the ground. Bo' lifted himself before his scarf wrapped around his mouth like a ninja mask. Quickly he gripped his blade and struck a stance. He hoped his last-minute efforts created a brief enough gape as he prepared to go on the defensive.

"Listen we're not here to hurt anyone. However, we cannot allow ourselves to be harmed either. We're just here to return something!"

But if they were to be left no other choice... then Bo would defend his life to the very end. Even if it meant cutting them down.

The shining orb adorning the room in shards of light focused its glowing intensity in Zero’s direction, intercepting his troublesome opponent. Ethereal bodies with phantasmal blades were a mic not to be trifled with, ghosts rarely leave this world without some cursed regrets to bother the living with. Zero had his fair share of haunts to teach him to keep his distance from things untouchable. And once those shining kunai forced the specter to face them, Zero giggled and disappeared into a ring of lightning dancing around the perimeter of the chamber. The lavender electricity channeled from the kunai nestled in the three runes, arcing between each rune yet unmarked. A spark ignited in each eerie, glowing symbol, blazing like a shorn cable. The electro-pyrotechnics illuminated the room in a searing flash of light, strobing through the innocuous red gas. Barely a moment later, Zero reappeared near Bo’s first kunai with his hand firmly around its handle, leaning confidently on the cave wall.

“I think the only conceited ones here are the losers gatekeeping us from beyond the grave.”

Zero ripped the kunai out of the wall and the rune beneath it shattered like a light bulb and energy pulsed through the arc encircling the chamber. The second rune popped in the same fashion, followed by the third, and subsequently each of the 8 remaining runes marked with Zero’s mystic charge.

“YOU FOOOOOOOLS! ALL THAT AWAITS YOU IS SCOOOORN!”

“Whatever, bro. Sounds like you didn’t even get in the club.”

Each rune snapped and popped like a string of firecrackers, the sigils atop and below the chamber flickered, resembling the hazy static between two wavelengths. The siren song of the faceless phantom’s final words were music to Zero’s ears while he snickered to himself, twirling Bo’s Kunai around his finger as he leisurely approached his new friend tossed to the floor.

“You good, my guy?”

Zero extended Bo the same hand with his kunai hanging from his index finger, returning the weapon to its owner and showing his gratitude. Things might have gone quite differently if he hadn’t thought to do away with the runes. As the sparks and gas settled and dissipated, the hazy green energy of the runes escaped into one of the corridors exiting the chamber. The way back was closed, and all that was left were the darkened paths ahead.

As the spark as dust settled the final words of the ghostly warriors cursed words rang a few times in Bo's ears. He didn't move from his position even after things died down as if frozen in place. Though glad the scuffle was over his hand was still firmly stuck on his blade.

"Even so... I cannot... Will not fall here. I made a promise..."

His heart rate was dying down. The burning conviction that governed his magic began to subside into a smoldering flame...never fading entirely. Such was the nature of the prince himself. He was never not focused on his end goal...to see the fruits of his labors ripe. He had taken on a task...one that carried the lives of thousands on his shoulders. One that placed a dogma on him that he absolutely will not ignore. Even if it meant that right now his entire kingdom saw him as a traitor. That the very lives he risked his life for currently saw him as their greatest threat.

"Scorn... hatred... I have chosen these things... even still. I will not be deterred from my path. I have chosen to wear their scorn as armor to face the greater threat. I...Will not die."

His words were softly spoken onto the air. More so to himself than the fading voice of his aggressor. He stayed prostrated until the hand of Zero was given to him. The Denki kunai dangling from his index finger gleamed in the fading green light. For a second that gleam reflected in Bo's eyes and he smiled. He released himself of the tension in his body and allowed himself to breathe. Taking hold of his friend's hand he rose from the ground. His eyes were locked with Zero's. His display of ability, though brief, was magnetizing. Bo had witnessed many different forms of magic, manipulation and conjuring of lightning. Though the color of Zero's lightning …the way he could use it. Just what in the world was he?

"Yeah, I just fine"

He said with a casual smile. He placed the kunai back in his pouch as his scarf loosened revealing his smirk. Bo's eyes drifted to the darkened paths.

"Zero... I feel inclined to be honest with you before we venture further... after our lives have been in each others hands i think it's only right...that you at the very least know a bit more...about why I have made this journey. Why I would risk my life at the whim of a stranger... mind if we take a breather?"

Bo would say as the hazy green energy fled into one of the darkened paths.

"But we're so close" zero muttered to himself, watching the haze drift steadily from the chamber.

"I mean yeah, we can take a breather." He rolled his neck and copped a squat right where he stood.

"I honestly wasn't wondering too much. Who turns down a free vacation?" Zero swatted a shard of armor with his foot unwinding on the floor. Bo seemed to have more to him than met the eye, a little bit of edge that got them through the gauntlet safely and without much trouble. Zero loved to dance and a chance to tango with the dead he rarely passed up. He was also impressed with Bo's resourcefulness, even if he looked a little winded. He wasn't just some guy who got picked out of a diner, Bo had some substance to him and zero counted himself lucky to have him along.

He was constantly talking about the will of his people or something like that, hard to hear over steel and ghouls sometimes. Zero assumed he was chanting a bit or saying a mantra to focus on the move he used, but things turned a bit more introspective in the aftermath of the battle. Friendships move fast when your lives look like they're on the line.

For Bo, it was quite a different experience. He couldn't really place his finger on it but the deeper they ventured into this place, the closer to something truly bewildering he felt. Though the excursion thus far had been more than exhilarating for him that brief scuffle placed him back into perspective for the young would-be prince. Zero might've afforded to be so carefree about his company. Bo whoever could not. Something in him felt like he needed to have someone else to know the gravity of what he shouldered...especially someone as resourceful as Zero. He wanted Misha to be the one he told this to... but fate had chosen another potential friend for him to confide in.

"Tell me Zero, have you ever heard of the Denkou Kingdom?"

He inquisitively inquired of his compatriot as he took a moment to also sit a few feet away from Zero. His eyes carried a softness to them as his gaze matched Zero. This topic...it was one he had not to liberty to speak on since he ventured far from home. He dared not bequeath too much information. Enough, however, to hopefully glean something from this master adventures mind. He placed his blade across his lap after removing his scarf from around his mouth. He wanted to know what the current outside knowledge of his home was.
